Quotable Trick Contest, every Sunday! · 4:15am Aug 2nd, 2021
I've decided to host a Quotable Trick Contest for my readers, and anypony can play! Each Sunday you have a chance to earn a (pause for dramatic effect) Trick Point!
Um, Twi? This was supposed to be fun...
Rules last updated 23-Oct-2022.
There are currently two kinds of contest, rules provided below. The weekly contest will begin at 3:00pm Eastern Time when I post the question(s) in a blog entry beginning with "Quotable Trick Contest". (Occasionally the blog post will be a few minutes late, but it will never be posted before 3pm.)
General Rules
- The comment closest to the correct answer wins the Trick Point!
- Ties go to the earliest post.
- Whenever you win a contest you have to sit out the next contest.
- You only get one guess! Editing your comment after posting it disqualifies you.
(* = If you made a mistake with your post, such as naming the story but forgetting to name the chapter, you may post a second comment with any corrections provided you do it within five minutes of the initial post.)
Contest Type 1: Find the Quote! (most common)
- I will post a line or two from one of my published story chapters.
- When not hoof-picked, chapter selection is random from a flat distribution.
- The same chapter could be selected twice in a row.
- You may only look at the stories via Fimfiction, or in my book.
- You are not permitted to search multiple pages at once.
- Using "find in page" in your browser is okay! (In some cases it might not work.)
- Searching through a copy of my stories, browser history, or Googling is not permitted.
Contest Type 2: Multi-Question Quiz! (hardest)
- I will post a series of questions or a multi-part question.
- You'll want to participate even when others have answered, because you'll learn more about the questions.
- You must spoiler your answers.
- It's okay to look at other users' answers before providing your response!
- Each question or portion will be worth a set number of points that will be provided to you.
- In some cases "nearly correct" responses are worth half credit.
- You will be told your score, but sometimes I won't reveal the true answers!
- The winner of the previous contest CAN participate and will even receive a score, but they will be excluded from winning. If the last contest's winner participates, please begin your answer with an unspoilered "(Not Competing)" so people will know they can copy your answer and still win, and do not post your answer until there are at least two other responses.
And now you can spend Trick Points in the Trick-Store to get all sorts of cool stuff!
Indeed he does. He’s only second place behind Pharynx though.
This soudns fun! I don't think I'll be any good at it, but I'm willing to try
Is Knuth-Morris-Pratt algorithm permitted?
Oh, neat; I hope this goes well. :)
(Not rating my own chances of point-winning much at all highly, but eh. :))
edit:
Oh, though, to clarify, how much are we allowed to use find-on-this-page software/browser functions? Does the search have to be fully manual, can a chapter be searched for confirmation only if one is already pretty sure the lines are in there, or can one manually go to a story one's pretty sure they're in, then search chapter-by-chapter? Or, as a further level, I suppose, go through every chapter of every story that way, if one was actually willing to put in that work.
(And also regarding searching, I'm assuming, naturally I think, that "Google" there refers to that sort of broad search in general, not literally just Google specifically. I was confident enough in that that I wasn't even going to bother mentioning it for clarification, but since I was asking about something adjacent anyway... [shrugs])
DELICIOUS!

You can if it is running on wetware (i.e. in your brain). :V

I didn't think about that, but Find should be okay. I'll update the description here.

Ah, yes, that looks much clearer on this; thanks!
