    I will return to G5

    Hey, guys. Mr. J here.

Just so you're aware, I am planning to return to MLP G5: both watching Tell Your Tale and Make Your Mark. Now, I don't remember if I ever told you all about this, but I did inform some of y'all that I've given up hope for G5 because the episodes I watched around that time (two years ago) were so forgettable and boring.

B- (a good episode with numerous flaws but still rewatchable)

C- (it’s not worth rewatching although it does have good elements)
D+ (a bad episode with a few good things in it)

D- (a terrible episode with badly written characters and butchered moral)
F (horrible and unwatchable)

Greetings to you all! This is Mr. J here with a very special episode review as requested by Heroic412227 . Although not technically a full series, this is the pilot of a very interesting would-be adult-oriented series called Hazbin Hotel. This was created by Vivienne Medrano as well as written by her and Dave Capdevielle. The first time I watched this pilot was back around the time this was released: Oct. 28th, 2019. To be candid with you all and especially with those of you who are big fans of this pilot, I wasn’t really fond of this whatsoever. In fact, I remember how I strongly abhorred the character designs and the very tone thereof.

Every time I would look upon their designs, I would internally cringe and look away. Something about it didn’t seem right to me. The premise, on the other hand, was a bit interesting to say the least. But as time went on, I slowly started to tolerate their designs and their looks. Now, I am somewhat more used to them than I was back then. Now, as for the story itself...

I genuinely enjoyed it. This pilot showcases Hell where a city full of demons who are going through rough times as well as enduring genocidal turf wars by other demons. They are living out their lives in sin until the princess of Hell—Charlie—steps up and decides to make a difference by raising up a Hotel so that her people can be rehabilitated and reformed from a life of evil. However, almost everyone scoffs at the idea and mock her for thinking that demons like them could be redeemed.

To be honest, I actually feel bad for Charlie here. In fact, it really makes me wonder how the hell (pun intended) is she a sweet, innocent, right-doing soul despite the fact she is the daughter of Lucifer (how come the writers didn’t name him Satan instead?). Her character is so well written that I am actually hoping that she eventually succeeds in her plans. Now if only this would become a full series...

Nonetheless, a radio demon named Alastor steps up and decides to help her out just out of sheer boredom and just to see her try and fail. Boy, do we have yet another character who might as well be another ally for Joker. I actually like this character as he is full of charisma and has a witty and sarcastic sense of humor. Both Joker and Alastor would have a hell of a time together (pun intended again).

As for the other characters, Vaggie is a strong yet tender deuteragonist. She even reminds me of Poison Ivy in a way and her relationship with Harley Quinn. Angel Dust is funny yet still kinda annoying most of the time. Sir Pentious has the coolest design of them all... but he’s not as good as Alastor. Bite me.

I can see why there are some people who openly despise this pilot because of the blatant implications and the rated R tone thereof... especially all the homophobia this pilot displays towards our main characters (Charlie is bisexual whereas Vaggie is lesbian). The thing people have to understand is that this pilot’s setting is taking place in Hell, so it would make sense why all these things happened. I mean, it makes perfect sense to me, but hey, to each his own.

Overall, this pilot has a lot of potential to be transformed into a great full-length series. For that, I grade this a solid B+.

Peace!

I like this series. It´s fun and original, and the story has potential. You´ll have to wait if you want to see more episodes, because she made a contract with a streaming company (hulu was it?) and there hasn´t been any news of it since.

However, Vivzie also has another series called Helluva Boss. In my opinion, it´s better than Hazbin Hotel. The plot is more original and the characters are also great. But the best thing is that the episodes are hilarious! Don´t know if you watched it, but if you haven´t I´d recommend to give it a watch :raritywink:

Yes, I’ve seen glimpses of that series, but I much prefer Hazbin Hotel over Helluva Boss.

5561252
That’s where the pilot was uploaded, yes.

5561269
My lad, if it weren’t for your preferences on what to review, I’d totally give you a suggestion.

5561305
Happy Tree Friends. It looks like it's for little kids, but it's really, what I heard someone call, something like the Looney Tunes mixed with Final Destination.

In other words, very gory. Also, not much English. Mainly noises or gibberish.

No inappropriate stuff either. The violence is really all there is.

5561307
Alright, I’ll take a look at it in the future.

5561308
You have been warned. Though I guess you prefer gore over other things, anyway.

5561312
Gore isn’t always something I enjoy. As long as it has a good and interesting story along with it, then I can tolerate it to a degree.

5561313
The show doesn't have a continuous plot. Each episode is just a small story, everything goes wrong, characters die, and then next episode it's like nothing happened.

5561317
Ah, ah, stop right there. That’s something I am to discover for myself. If you tell me the very structure of the show, the lesser chance I actually give it a shot even though you’re not giving spoilers.

5561320
Very well. I will leave it up to you to figure things out.

I got something funny for you, Mr. J. There was a bad review for Hazbin Hotel on YouTube we’re this guy whose name I don’t remember, tried saying that the pilot was garbage using stupid bullshit as proof. Some of the shit he said would make your head explode from anger. One of the things he said if I remember correctly, was, “why does Alastor sound like a radio host. I don’t get it. It makes him too hard to hear.” Keep in mind before he said this, they called him the Radio Demon twice before Alastor introduced himself.

Cool Review! I love the way you expressed your opinion on this pilot. Hey, sorry to keep bothering you on this, but do you think you could review The Owl House so far? That is one of my favorite series of all time and I'd love to see what you think of the show and its characters so far, especially Amity Blight, my favorite character.

5562424
Thanks.

I want to wait until the show is actually finished first before I can review it.

5562442
Okay. Also, do you do song reviews as well? If so, I have the perfect song for you to review:

Sorry about the curse words and for bothering you about requests.

5562510
I don’t do song reviews.

Also, I don’t mind profanity so no need to apologize. But you might wanna tone down the requests though. Lol

5561323
It’s absolute shit. Everything you described about it was true. Honestly, I couldn’t sit through the whole series as it has no plot, no character, just nothing besides over-the-top gore and stupidity. It won’t get reviewed.

5604888
Fair. At least you checked it out, though.

5604888
(Plus, now there’s two characters in an AU of mine that will be different, or cooler, or better, than what you’ve seen.)

5562424
Just to let you know, I'm now doing episode reviews for The Owl House. Just in case you haven't seen it, I posted my review for the first episode of season 1 this past Saturday.
