Eclipsa Butterfly is the Best! · 7:28pm Jul 7th, 2021
Next to Toffee, Eclipsa is my favorite character in the entire Star vs. the Forces of Evil series. She's just such a well-written character and a great mother, wife, queen, and friend overall, despite her faults and what others in Mewni think of her. And I'll tell you why she's that right now.
- Her design is very beautiful and well-done. Giving her an elegant, yet witchy vibe that makes the audience wonder if she's as evil as everyone says/thinks she is (Spoiler Alert! She's not. Sorry.)
- Her personality is well-written, too. She's like an more regal version of Star, but more sympathetic, caring, and forgiving towards others, even those who accused her of being evil for years. That doesn't mean she's perfect, as she can be a bit reckless, prideful, and prone to make jokes, even in serious moments at times, but that's still part of what makes her a great character.
- Her backstory is very tragic in hindsight. She had to give up her family and be imprisoned for over 300 years just because she didn't conform to Mewni's insane prejudice against monsters after marrying a kind-hearted and protective king of monsters and possibly giving birth to an adorable half-mewman/half-monster baby. Her dark magic wasn't even that bad and could be used for good despite its nature. She also did what she did regarding the dark magic for knowledge rather than malice.
- Her powers are interesting, in my opinion. I don't know the reasons why, but they just feel like very interesting spells.
- She has a lot of funny, heartwarming, and heartbreaking moments like that time where she was playing her guitar made out of a skeleton, her big battle against Meteora (her own daughter), and her finally reuniting with her family in the end without fear of prejudice again.
- But the best thing about Eclipsa is her character development. It's genuine, believable, and well-done. She goes from an ambiguously evil character to one of the best, yet still hated, heroes and queens in Mewni. She also works as a great supporting character in the cast with so much mystery on her intentions and her relationships with Star, Moon, Marco, and especially her family, are all great to watch.
I just love Eclipsa Butterfly as a character so much! What do you guys think about her? Do you agree or disagree? You can tell me why in the comments down below or via PM if you want. Thank you and have a great day.
