Response to the My Little Pony inspired story · 1:15pm Jul 1st, 2021

Wow. I did not expect such a warm reception. And so quickly, I might add. I’m very happy to hear your enthusiasm for the story and many of you asked to learn more about it. So, I am here to deliver.

Several of you may already be familiar with the name, if you follow me on DeviantArt.

As described in my previous blog, The Mystic Knights Chronicles takes place in a world populated not by humans but by the fae folk. In European folklore, the term Fae or Faerie is an umbrella term for any and all magical creatures. In fact, faeries with wings were said to be rare and didn’t show up in the folklore until much latter. But don’t worry, plenty of my faeries will have wings, just not all of ‘em.

The cast will include four girls and four boys, since I want the boys to get equal amount of development as the girls. My years of writing characters like Flash Sentry, Bolín, Mako and Hozu made me realize how much I enjoy writing male leads and I want to depict them as more than just the butt monkeys or token boyfriends like my earlier writing days. I was young.

The story centers around twin protagonists, Kymera and Griffin and their journey into becoming Mystic Knights. They attend Seelie Academy alongside their cousin, Princess Odette, the future queen of Camelot, and their friends/roommates.

Terran Lin Fa-Shan, a dryad prince from the kingdom of Penglai. Studious and somewhat overachieving young man who just wants to make his family proud. He often serves as the straight man of the group, but has been known to flare up more often than not. He’s loosely inspired by Mako, though not as brooding.

Sapphire Shirin is a jinn/undine hybrid from the underground community of Alibah, outside of the kingdom of Zenzura. She’s kind like the Rarity of the group if she were fused with Indiana Jones and Korra’s cheeky charms. She’s athletic, confident and suave. Because of her lower class status, she works hard selling hand made fabrics, shoes, bags and jewelry to support herself and her family. As a hybrid, she has the power of both fire and water.

Iris Foraoise-Gitsune is a supper sweet and excitable kitsune who adores animals and making new friends. Growing up an only child at an animal sanctuary deep in Cedar Forest, Iris didn’t get a lot of opportunities to socialize with kids her own age. She naive and too eager to please but is not to be trifled with. Ironically, despite being a fox, she sucks at lying! You could say she’s a fusion of both Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. Plus she can bake!

Damian Prizrak is a will-o-wisp, which is basically a ghost or phantom in this universe. He’s often labeled as the odd-ball of the group. Think Johnny from Hotel Transylvania mixed with Ron Stoppable… blended with the detective skills that could give Sherlock Holmes a run for his money. For all of Damian’s odd interests: abandoned buildings, spooky stories, and his habit of phasing in and out without warning, he is a highly skilled detective and a loyal friend.

Aster Polias is Damian’s country cousin from a small town in Arcadia. She’s a reptilian, capable of changing her appearance and read minds. A power she often hates because of past experiences. She’s kind of the lone wolf of the team as well as the tech expert. She can hot wire a car in the time it takes to crack a computer code. Ten seconds flat. Though behind her Brody exterior is a loyal, sincere and loving young woman. It just takes a while to get through her walls.

Lastly, Tide. Sure to be a fan favorite. If you liked Hozu from The Guardians of Harmony, then I’m sure you’ll love this guy. He’s a merman from Atlantis (yes, you read that right) who has traveled all across the world. Usually stealing to get by. He’s sly, cunning and handsome. And boy does he know it! But we all know that guys like these are really just lonely softies underneath.

As for the twins. Kymera is hot-blooded, passionate and a thrill-seeker but has a good heart and wants to become a Mystic Knight more than anything. Her brother Griffin is shy and timid, but equally as kind and brave when the time calls for it. Kymera can use light to heal while Griffin can transform it into prism crystals.

Oh yeah, and they can transform into a dragon and a unicorn respectively. And Griffin can summon his unicorn horn to use as either a wand or a sword. Pretty cool, right?

Their world is composed of seven realms, which are basically continents each with their own kingdoms, states and cities., most of which are named after legendary locations.

Avalon, Tir Na Nog, Hyperborea, Atlantis, Shangri-La, Peristan(Persian for Fairyland), Camelot, Penglai, Mount Wukong, etc.

Avalon is where the majority fo the first half of the story takes place, with Camelot City being its capital. The Cedar Forest(from Mesopotamian mythology) is where the Seelie Academy is located.

As you can tell, it’s like a mega crossover of myths and legends. Though, again, I try my best to be respectful and only use the concepts I know will be the least disrespectful. I do my homework.

If you guys would like to know more share in the comments what you would like to learn about next. Ask any question you like and I’ll do my best to answer them as soon as possible.

Until then, God bless *kiss, kiss*

Mystic Knights... reminds me of that show I used to watch way back in the 90s. It was Saban's attempt to make a somewhat 'Super Sentai' like series nothing based on Japan's material. Of course, it wasn't an Americanized show but rather... 'Irish Power Rangers' given the setting. I wouldn't say it was the 'greatest series I've ever seen in my life' but I found it memorable. The backdrops, the characters, the armor, and the creatures (Well... 'some' better than others). They were going to do a second season called 'Battle Thunder' which would've introduced another Mystic Knight who is so powerful in the dark arts that he would've given the original cast a run for their money... but then they passed it over to do an americanized Power Rangers series 'Lost Galaxy' and... the rest is history.

Reading this synopsis, the term 'Mystic Knights' is very popular and I've seen it used in 'several' projects. But I do believe there's a 'glimmer' of potential in this project. I'm always up for a good read that doesn't always involve crossovers of an existing material or rehash of the same plot device with additional characters outside their realm. Who knows? If this series does well for the FanFic community and you decide to make it your own 'independently supported' animated project (Probably through one of those Kickstarter things), I do think this can be so inspiring that it could be bigger than Vivziepop's work!

*Offscreen* Isn't that a bit of a stretch to compare this idea with a series about demons who shamelessly lewd, curse, and flip the bird against all that's deemed wholesome and family quality?

... Anyways, for now it's best to see how this does as a written material. Then see where it takes off after, oh I don't know... 2 or 3 arcs? Hopefully it beats three seasons worth of material, since most series don't get that far (And the ones that do often overstay their welcome).

Wow, that is…. Quite the compliment, I will admit. Though, to be honest, mother original name was Mystic Squad, but someone recommended the change because it sounded too corny and early 2000s. I did a poll on Discord and many voted on Mystic Knights. I’m also considering using M.K Chronicles for short.

And yes, I’m aware of The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. I only watched the first two episodes and while I found it too silly forme to get invested, being a fan of Irish folklore and such, I was drawn to at least the concept of it. And since my series does have some Arthurian motifs, knights just seemed fitting, and the mystic part relating to not only magic but also to the spiritual aspect.

I have two drafts of the first half of the story if you want a read. Please not, this may not be the finished product, but it’s what I’ve got so far.

I have a habit of being a bit of a talker more 'here' than in real life, people would often call me 'Mr. Wall of Text' which I grew used to after a while. On the matter of the title, you can't argue with the majority vote and 'Mystic Knights' is nevertheless a good title. Now 'M.K. Chronicles' on the other hand... that's not a bad option either. Especially if you determine to make an added adaptation and not confuse anyone with a title of a similar name.

I actually saw the whole show from start to finish. I'll admit it's silly at times, but the concept of Irish lore with Super Sentai elements did keep me invested. Plus, I liked the tales that involved mystical dragons (Especially when one of the knights could summon the dragon at will). What can I say? I just like fantasy where the focus is not so much on 'realism' but rather where the impossible and unexplained can be 'possible'.

I'll have a look at these drafts and let you know what I think.

I will admit, I definitely want to read this story more than anything. Because both the characters and story background has me interested.

Very interesting.

This is both interesting and inspiring for many (including myself) to make stories like you did.

I have so many ideas for what story I should make!!

The only problem is trying to execute it (like put it on paper.) It’s easier to think of it, but hard trying to write it down.
