Howdy everyone, one last thing before I take a step back from this universe for awhile. Speaking of, I think calling this Scorched Equestria, or Scorchedverse, or something along those lines is the way I want to go. Yes, the infection is important but I first think about the sun hanging in the sky when I think of this story.
Anyway, several people want to write stories set in this universe, so I figured I would help.

If you break the horn while they’re turned, there’s no way for them to turn back without an injection of pure mana.

Sorry for the deluge of questions, but if a unicorn starts turning slowly, are there any signs, like hostility towards non-unicorns? Or does it hide itself until the unicorn turns fully?

By slowly, I mean less than an hour. Like if they’re strong with magic and they use it, it’s damn near instant like with Starlight. But yes, you would see a a significant decrease in cognitive function and you would see their body slowly start to deform.
How would this affect Tirek, assuming that the tainted magic caused Tartarus to fall and allow him to escape.

Follow up question. Did the spell, hex, curse, or whatever terminology you think fits, reach around the whole world. Like, if there was a unicorn in Griffonstone, would they have turned Feral?

Now, I'm not sure if she was described as an earth pony in The Crystal Heart Spell, but the PMV showed her as an earth pony. So, if a pegasus or unicorn used an artifact, would that could as "Natural magic" as the rules state, or would this be an "unnatural magic" like Changeling magic?

I would say that unless the artifact uses natural magic to power itself, they should be fine. Like, if they used the alicorn amulet they're fucked imo

What do Infected Kirin look like? I had the thought, but since they weren't shown, or mentioned, within the story proper, it'd be nice for a foundation, so any Authors using the verse have a proper rendition.

As soon as I woke up (2 minutes ago), I washed my face and hopped onto Fimfiction to see if this was posted.
What exactly counts as "natural" magic? I know unicorns, alicorns, Kirin, crystal unicorns, and Tirek and anypony using the alicorn amulet, fall into that category, and Changelings and assumably Hippogriff fall into the unnatural category. What else could theoretically fall into the unnatural category?
I assume things like Timberwolves fall somewhere in-between since they just died instead of turning into more monstrous versions of themselves.

I would say natural magic is anything that uses the mana that comes from leylines. Timberwolves are held together by magic, much like other dangerous creatures that come from the Everfree. This was expanded in the season 8 (?) finale when the mane six went to Tartarus. When the natural magic was tainted, it made these creatures fall apart. That's how I see it at least.

Sorry again for so many questions, but I thought of a hypothetical. Say Rainbow Dash stayed outside when she was sick, or Discord didn't escape in time. Hypothetically, would either of them turn Feral, or do both of their abilities exist outside of the natural sense of magic.

They wouldn't turn feral. They would just grow sick and eventually die.
Now I'm curious, considering the fact that half the planet was chilled, and the other was baked, what races have survived, and/or thrived, with the harsh climate? Dragons seem like an obvious pass, but what of Minotaur's, Griffons, or even the Yaks? How did the Changelings fair, since they could theoretically get the pass? Or did they end up starving?

Thanks for all of your answers and explanations so far. The next question is actually something more related your story than your universe. Pinkie Pie said she never killed Pumpkin Cake, and since we don't see her on the death list, I can only assume that she was telling the truth. So, what actually happened to the little unicorn? I would have to assume they turned Feral, and somehow waddled out of their house or were locked in the basement by Pinkie Pie.

Earlier, you said that any artifact using natural magic would turn the creature wielding it. So, assumably, an earth pony could turn if they had something like the alicorn amulet. At least that's what I assume that comment meant.
So, where do items like the Dragon Lord scepter and aa majority of the artifacts Daring Doo collects fall?
Also, unrelated question, what's keeping the ponies from starving. Before I scraped my Tirek plan, I had assumed that they worked off of a similar method to Tirek, using the ambient magic they gather to "eat" as it were.

You would be correct with your assumptions about the food.
As for the artifacts, I didn't say they would turn. I said they were fucked. If something other than a unicorn used an artifact, they would end up like Dash or Discord, drained and dying.

Okay, that makes sense, especially since King Boolion made the conscious choice to make an exception for the alicorns, and assumably the kirin too.
Just read the Epilogue, and I loved it. By the way, about Hope Hollow, is their safety due to how few unicorns there are in Hope Hollow, or did the Hopelessness Magic that was cursing them effectively act as a repellant for the curse.
Also, a thought occurred to me. Did the unicorns "talk" to each other at all? Like, did Boolion just point them in the direction of the hole or did they have some independence. Based on how they reacted to Canterlot falling, it feels like they have some arguable sense of freedom that separates them from mindless drones.
Follow up. If they can "talk" or understand each other, does that mean Twilight used her loose sense of freedom to not tell Sweetie Belle about the trap, or did the young filly know her role?

I would say there's a modicum of individuality still in the unicorns. It's why you saw Vinyl napping and Trixie throw a hissy fit, because there's still part of them in there. It's clouded from the infection, and it's a bit buried. But it is in there. They don't really communicate with one another, more like Bullion communicates with all of them. He's like a central intelligence, I guess.
As for Hope Hollow, I feel like the ponies there could subdue or handle the few unicorns that live there. It helps that they're isolated and wouldn't get a lot of unicorns from other towns coming in.
New question, sorry, it just struck me while I was working with idea number 2.
So, if Tirek eats pony magic, he'd turn (If Boolion thought he could be useful, at least). Does the same apply for changelings? Like, if Elytra tried to feed off of their lust for murder, would she get sick or run the risk of turning?

got a couple of quick questions. If a unicorn was on the exact opposite side of the globe from the central pool, how long would it take for the bad magic to reach them? Would it be possible for the entire thing to be fixed before they were affected?

I don’t think so. I feel like at 36 days it would encompass the world, but at the rate it took it would be just barely. Like they would’ve been infected for like ten days at most. The biggest threat would definitely be the sun not moving.

uhh, another question. If a turned unicorn came across an unturned unicorn, would they be able to directly turn them? Like, say a ponyville unicorn reached Appleloosa on a runaway train, before the bad magic could get that far south, would they be able to shoot an unturned unicorn with a spell to infect them, or would they have to wait for the magic to catch up?

No, only Twilight could do that. Her saliva, that thick black slime, is the same stuff that infected her. She can infect other unicorns by coating them with it, which is what she was going to do to Rarity before Rainbow saved her.
