The last research paper I worked on has published at last.

The process is REALLY slow. I finished all my work on this 3 years ago.

    https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2316969121

This one uses a lot of my histology and in-situ hybridization with RNAscope results.

But no more science for me. Now I build houses and driveways... and rip them apart too! It's a sort of yin-yang thing I've got going here.

A comedic scene from a new Clouseua story I'm fiddling with...

I just came up with this, and imagining Peter Sellers delivering the line had me laughing for 5 minutes straight.

Clouseau, "For you see, the murderer was... the bullet!"

    Guy in room, "The bullet?"

Clouseau, "Of course, no one would suspect the bullet of firing itself!"

Woman in room, "But that... that's madness!"

THE PIRATE KING BREAKS THE NETFLIX ANIME ADAPTATION CURSE!!!

Only the Pirate King could do it...

It's as good as possible. You cannot do such a goofy anime any better than this, and it's GREAT! I friggin LOVED it.

Last call for Bronycon items up on Ebay!

I'll be delisting all remaining MLP items Sept 1st to focus entirely on selling my huge stash of collectible magazines, which take up vastly more space than the MLP items. Everything here fits into a single flat box I can pick up with one hand. The magazines... weigh over 700 lbs total. Sooooo, kinda makes sense to deal with those ASAP!

How to make your audience bawl their eyes out... ;3 · 4:47pm Jun 11th, 2021

I've been musing a certain scene I'd come up with for some time in the final part of a Pony trilogy of movies I first conjured around 2014. Character deaths have to be handled properly when they're central to the plot, the impact needs to be considered.

And in this scene (and the one immediately preceding it) the sheer magnitude of the events demands a tragic conclusion to the mid-story low-point before the ennui and gradual build-up to the Big Finish.

Celestia dies after defending Twilight from TIRAC's Dark Magic attacks (Not Tirek, this will be the ORIGINAL monster; utterly merciless and cruel, desiring the complete domination of all life to turn into his abominations) and a horrible version of the Smooze as Canterlot is destroyed, while Twilight is pouring her all into teleporting out the populace using a crystal lattice amplifier. They manage to escape, but not before a Dark Lance pierces Celestia's shield... and Celestia. It'll be shown in silhouette, all dramatic and stuff. Twilight doesn't see this, and the Lance simply dissolves into smoke, while Celestia grits her teeth and dumps all the last dregs of her power into re-sealing the shield to buy Twilight the final critical seconds. Twi grabs the faltering Celestia and yanks her through a final portal made for them, then fires off a magic bomb to blow up the lattice so Tirac can't use it to trace their teleport destinations). This is all set to Coldplay's song "The Scientist", and has a great instrumental ending that fits the tone of the desperate last stand and escape.

Celestia's death scene in a quiet, distant wood at night set to the song "Four Knocks" from Doctor Who, Tennant's last episode (color pallet of grey and black for the subtly spreading pool of blood beneath her. The audience will at first think it's her shadow. See, you hit them with little visual shocks like that, tiny additional realizations at just the right moments. There's no way to heal her. The little team is too spent, the contamination from the Dark Magic in the wound blocks everything. Luna reveals the only cure at the time would be for Celestia to embrace the Darkness and let it consume her, then it would heal her... and turn her into a Nightmare. They don't have the EoH, and it's obvious this new villain would slaughter them. Celestia refuses, naturally. She thanks them all for fighting so hard, and that because of them, the ponies escaped. She notes Twilight's resolve and how much she's grown. She wishes she'd had more time to spend with Luna, but is glad at least to have seen her cleansed of the Darkness.

As the song reaches it's climactic peak, Celestia offers her final parting words, which I finally think I have a version I like best, "The Sun always sets at the end of day. Some nights are frightful and moonless; some nights storms rage. Even in those darkest hours, when you can't see any way ahead... even then, for those who endure, who find strength and light in their hearts... those who let go of fear, who never give up hope for the dawn. For those brave ponies... the morning... will come... again..." Then her body slowly slumps, her mane stops waving and the color vanishes from the tips upward, turning pale pink-gray. Twilight and Luna scream her name as the others sob. The song hits a final crescendo and then fade out, at which time a sudden gale rocks the wood as the world feels one of the Alicorns pass, Celestia's wings blow away in a flurry of iridescent feathers, and we see the slender unicorn she once was lying still beneath the trees.

And the audience floats out of the theater on the sea of tears they've shed. :raritywink:

That's how you CRUSH your audience before building them back up again!
