First, I'd like to open this blogpost by reminding you that Fimfiction's development started ten years ago on this very day. Feel old yet?
That said. . . .
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a new author in possession of a good prompt must be in want of quality execution.
Of course, everyone's first story sucks -- I'll be the first to tell you that, and it's something every author on Fimfiction lives with. Deal with it; just get it out there, get feedback, and use it to forge something better.
When I set out writing my own first fanfiction, I had something envisioned: a human goes to Equestria, but runs into a language barrier. That might sound unusual to you, especially when you consider the show is done up in English first, but to me it seemed. . . natural. You can't expect people to know your first language when traveling abroad here on Earth, so why should a place as alien or fantastic as Equestria?
My first attempt at putting this to paper was. . . lackluster, and that's putting it nicely. My only saving grace is that it was never published here. I won't even be linking it, because I don't want to embarrass myself with any further responsibility for exposing you to the epitome of bad writing. Just know it existed once upon a time.
Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to announce its sort of spiritual successor, in a similar vein to between The Blue Rose and Fallen-Song.
Basically this.
I’ve been working since January with several prereaders and translators to make it come to life -- including Admiral Biscuit (who served as one of my prereaders). I'm adding the finishing touches to it at the moment, actually.
Speaking of whom, when I read the next chapter of Onto the Pony Planet -- or really any of the Admiral's stories, for that matter -- there's also a link to a blogpost where he outlines some background information, research, random tidbits of trivia, and the like, for that chapter -- basically stuff that he can't find a way to put into the narrative. He told me about a quarter of his readers bother perusing those notes, so I thought I'd give that a go here. By no means consider them mandatory reading; they're just for those who want some behind-the-scenes for the story. A side dish to the main course, if you will.
Back on course, the main plotpoint in the new story, the whole raison d'être, is still present, but has been reworked entirely into something. . . for now, let's just say unique. The premise has been done before, yes -- just not to my standards. And if you want something done right. . . .
Expect this story to drop in three week's time, on the 30th -- which would be the seventh anniversary of this account's creation. For those of you who have been waiting for my magnum opus, it's here.
Pop some corn and grab a seat. It's gonna be a blast.
Good night, and good luck.
Intriguing...
As a fan of OTTPP, I will be watching intently.
I've lined up with a lot of your goings over the years, and I think this caps it all off; it definitely sounds like a magnum opus for you. Eager to see where it goes, and hoping it gets the attention it deserves.
