It's a character, not the actor. · 2:54am Jun 7th, 2021
Okay, I should have expected this when I.started writing Can't Snuff the Rooster. But I had hoped I wouldn't need to write this statement. Yes, I know that the character of Rooster was played by Danny Masterson. I also realize that he had several accusations laid at his feet. I also know that even if it turns out that he's "innocent" he won't be. But the point is that Rooster isn't Danny Masterson. Rooster Bennet is a character from The Ranch.
I wanted to write the story because I felt that Rooster would be perfect for writing a human turned pony but instead of being instantly admired he puts his hoof in his mouth time and time again.
So basically just watch as he continues to be the person he was on the show and see how that meshes with Equestria.
THANK YOU i don't get the people who cant separate the actor and the character it drives me nuts
I'm honestly sorry you have to make this blog. Wish more people could distinguish fantasy from reality so theu can properly separate characters and actors.

It's appreciated, it really is. Luckily it's just been private messages that's been sent, and mostly asking why I chose to to further propagate rape culture by including someone who has allegations against him. I've respectfully replied that I am using the character from the series, not the actor. More over my choice for using this character was because he is at odds with how Equestria is. While there are beings that has similar personalities to Jamerson 'Rooster' Bennett Equestria mostly doesn't. I say mostly because there are a few bad eggs.
Anyone that's watched the Ranch likely believed that Rooster would have hit it off with Berry Punch. After all, a mare that's known in the fandom as being a lush would be perfect fodder for him. So, I wanted to let his true abrasive personality shine through, and show that he's more likely to drive her away from his actions. I'm hoping to make this into what Shrek was for the traditional fairytale movies.

Oh, you don't know the half of it. I've got a degree in English Lit with a focus in Creative Writing, and one of my favorite classes was Lit Crit. Now, I was taking this class about the time that Orson Scott Card, Author of Ender's Game, was discovered to be extremely homophobic. There was a huge falling out, and his book was more controversial than it had been when it was published. I had people around me saying that we should boycott the book, but those of us in the English program all stated the same time. "you've got to separate the author from the work."
I've just carried that idea with me when it comes to pretty much any media. Television show, the characters are separate from the actors. If the work touches you, then it's important, and throwing it away, or a character away, because of the actor is foolish. I respect Netflix at least giving Rooster a send off, of sorts, and helping to give fans of the show closure. Sure, there was a ton wrong with the show. One of the biggest things was that I don't think that Abby and Colt should have gotten together. I think it would have been a more interesting story for him to end up with Heather. Regardless it was a decent show, and it certainly followed in the footsteps of That 70's Show. In fact we got several cameos from the former costars of it on the Ranch.
Regardless, I plan on writing the story to completion, although it's not going to be a long one. At most it's going to be about ten or twelve chapters, and around twenty to thirty thousand words. Something light and fun while I'm working on my original fiction.

Ah I see those types.....yeah those types really can't distinguish fantasy and reality so you'll most likely hear from them for a while.
Be prepared. And I hate that I need to say that but the worlds gone bonkers in a few areas.
Write what you want and only listen to legit criticism. Though I know i don't really need to say that it can be good to have a reminder.

Again thanks. I already know that there's a risk with writing anything that can be considered controversial, but I figure that when it comes down to it I would rather write something that is both enjoyed by others and could mean something to someone needing instead of caving in and writing some white noise that follows the comfortable formulas that I've been seeing.
