    Audiobook Announcement

I'm excited to announce that I'm working on an audiobook for Hooves of Fate. I started with Chapter 63: Rivers. This way, long-time readers of HoF can reorient themselves to the momentum of the story before the upcoming release of Chapter 64 (text) this Saturday.

    The Voice of the People

They can cancel Friendship is Magic. They can cancel Make Your Mark. But they can never silence the voice of the people.

    Flurry Heart's Reign of Terror

I stayed up till 2am last night talking with a friend - orchestrating a plot - theorizing what precisely it would take for (young adult) Flurry Heart to successfully depose both of her parents, and Twilight Sparkle.

Help! My Heart Full of Pony - Pinkie Pie's History · 4:39pm May 30th, 2021

The show never covered exactly how Pinkie Pie went from a filly on a rock farm to a live-in employee of Sugarcube Corner. At some point, Mr. and Mrs. Cake took her in. They're pretty much family. I feel that would have made a beautiful story.

I wrote a song about it a long time back - one I never recorded. I figure the sentiment might as well see the light of day here, on my Heart Full of Pony blog, in the form of a poem.

Long, Long, Long, Long Road

Ever heard of a pink sheep?
There's one in every family
And in my house,
That little sheep was me.
One day I said, "Mama?
I'm grateful for your love,
But the life of a farmer
Ain't the life I'm dreaming of."

It was a long long long long road.
It was a long long long long road.
With just a hope in my heart,
And not a dime in my load,
It was a long long long long road.

My mission was simple:
Make everyone smile.
Help you forget
Your troubles a while.
But when confetti settled
On the dusty old ground
I had no home
Nor hat to lay down.

It was a long long long long road.
It was a long long long long road.
With just a laugh in my heart,
And not a dime in my load,
It was a long long long long road.

I was down and I was out.
I was black and blue.
I'd still be lost right now
But for the grace of you.

I wandered in
On a cold winter's day.
Ordered cocoa,
Swore I'd be on my way.
I fell asleep
Right there on your floor.
Woke up,
Wasn't homeless no more.

You said, "You walked a long, long, long, long road.
You had a long, long, long, long road.
Stay as long as you like,
And lighten your load.
You had a long, long, long, long road."

Discuss.

I've always liked the idea that the Cakes and Pies are either distant relatives or friends, and Pinkie's family arranged her apprenticeship so that she could flourish (and, incidentally, stop distracting her sisters during the shale harvest.) But that is a lovely poem.

That is a beautiful poem. I can see Pinkie traveling all over Equestria, worn out, tried and downtrodden until she finally comes to Ponyville and finds her home.

Oh, very nice. :)
