Hello and welcome to another update on the transition of 'Howlite Howler' to 'Of Scales and Fur.'
After reading my story, and knowing about my future plans, one of my friends recommended adding an epilogue to 'Of Scales and Fur' where Shiva's children from 'Howlite Howler,' Kodo and Celine, are seen as young puppies.
But, I'm going to admit, I'm a little nervous about introducing Kodo and Celine this early. I can't find the video, but I remember an author on Youtube mentioning that having the 'Babies ever after' trope is very risky, as it implies that the only way to have a happy ending is to have a family, which is not true for everyone. Romance isn't easy - heck, I really don't like romance, and completely gloss over any romance Shiva and Luke had in both HH and OSAF - and raising a family is not the end. If anything, it's the start of a whole new, and sometimes even twice as challenging journey, with it's own trials and tribulations.
But, at the same time, that's kind of the point: Kodo and Celine do still have their own trials and tribulations to overcome (as you might know with 'Son of the Howlite Howler,' where Kodo is pretty much the main character), and the epilogue is pretty much just setting up that they'll be important in later books. Plus, Shiva and Luke are dogs, not people. And they do mention that dogs don't consider romance the same way we humans do.
Is that enough to handwave how quickly Kodo and Celine show up in the 'Of Scales and Fur' storyline, or should I consider adding something more to it? I can't rewrite my entire story to be about Luke and Shiva getting together, but I'd really like some advice to make sure my story doesn't send the wrong message.

Hm... I see where your going with this, and I think you're right.
Shiva and Luke are dogs not people so they would love each other faster. However it would be perceived as bad writing because it's going too fast... Give me time and I may come up with an answer to this problem. You can count on me!
if not as pups, then maybe just the female as being visibly with child and thinking about it? something similar was used to great effect in the Pokemon Manga with Jessie and James that strongly implied that they had not only dated, but wed, with Jessie being at least seven months along...something to think about...
