So even though I only really got into writing or drawing pony back when S9 was airing, I've actually been into it for a really long time. I even still have a few old ponies from back when I was a kid, sitting around in various places. Decided to dig them out, and these two in particular were... Well, rough. They're both over 15 years old, and were given to my sister and I as children, so they're obviously well played with. So I decided some cleaning was in order.
(I'm sure you can tell which is my original here)
Now I'm not really here to talk about the deep details of cleaning old toys, I just think it was neat experience. All I used was a magic eraser and some hair conditioner, plus some extra things that went mostly unused: A toothbrush, some dish soap, and a small knife (This was only used once, to scrape some filth off Star Catcher)
And let me tell you, those erasers are really good.
Lathered that scruffy hair in conditioner, let them sit while I ate dinner, rinsed them, and then wait again while they dry...
Bam, good as lightly used. Still some obvious scuffs on Moondancer, and Star Catcher's still yellowed with age, but I'm good, I'm happy. Star Catcher will be set in a special space on my shelf, while Moondancer will be sent to my sister at some point, considering she was hers in the first place.
As for me? Well, I have a whole bucket of new & old ponies to clean now... Sure is a good thing I enjoyed this, isn't it?
Cute as heck
I’ve kept all of my old ponies too, though they’re safely stored away. I’ll probably write some stories with them at some point.

Between two younger sisters (including the frequently mentioned), a niece, and a few house moves, a lot of my childhood toys didn't make it to today. Which sucks for a lot of them, but I've still got a few and that's what counts. Though I am still sad for a few of those lost toys.
If I could think of a way to use Star Catcher in a story, I probably would.

I get that, I recall a few toys that I don’t recall the fate of, and I would have liked to keep them. That, or they were given away without any consideration to ask if they would be among things that I would count as keepsakes and childhood treasures.
Good work you put into cleaning those toys! I wish I could say I was into pony that long, but MLP was a total joke to me before Friendship is Magic hit the spotlight! Always will be glad my opinion changed though!
