F (horrible and unwatchable)

Greetings, everyone. Here is my review of Equestria Girls’ Dance Magic. This is the first part of the 1 hour-long television special called Equestria Girls: Magical Movie Night. The other 22-minute episodes will be separately reviewed as this one is. As for Dance Magic, it was slightly interesting that they had Rarity be the main character for this one as it has something to do with fashion and dancing. However, considering that she has never once been my favorite character in this show or in the main show, I wasn’t overly intrigued by this nor was I completely entertained or invested in this.

First off, have I ever mentioned in my previous season 9 episode reviews that I have always disliked Rarity’s drama queen gimmick? If I haven’t already, then allow me to say it loud and clear: I hate it so very much. I’m sorry, it just really grinds my gears to hear her annoying yells and dramatic complaints of fashion, organization, and all that stuff. Like, for Primus’ sake, calm down for crying out loud. Lol 😂

I get that she was very stressful and frustrated in those situations especially as it related to the returning Shadowbolts and the deadline for their camp’s fundraising but come on, really? THAT dramatic and exaggerating??

As for the other elements in this episode, it was overall pretty boring to me. There is really nothing worth talking about in depth except it has some catchy songs, decent score, and great voice acting. But the plot was bland at best and boring at worst.

However, I did like the fact that the Shadowbolts were kinda reformed I guess? I mean, it was later revealed that they were basically in the same boat Rarity was in and had to work together to make their project all work out well for both of them. So, that in itself tells me that you always gotta work some good things out with your enemies/frenemies despite your history.

Overall, this was a pretty weak episode in contrast to the next two episodes of the three-part series. So I will give this a straight up D. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for my review of Movie Magic.

Peace.

Ever wondered why Indigo Zap wasn't in this one?

No, I probably didn’t care enough to notice that. Why?

5514858
I just thought it was strange they only used 4 out of 5 of the Shadowbolts.

Maybe she had other things to worry about? Or maybe because her voice actress wasn’t available? 🤔

Eh, no sense in wondering about it.

It’s been a while since I last saw this episode, but I remember enjoying it quite a lot. The only nitpick I couldn’t help but note is that I wish the production team had come up with some other way for the Shadowbolts to discover Rarity’s ideas rather than having Rarity spill her ideas to them, because it hardly seemed like the brightest way to keep the plot moving forward.

You know it's kind of weird how the 2017 specials (aka... Dance Magic, Movie Magic, and Mirror Magic) are the only EG specials to do the 22 minute format (much like MLP FIM) as oppose to the ones in 2018 and 2019 which went for of course: The 1 hour format. ^^'
