New Hobby (for those of you who care) · 9:20pm May 4th, 2021
I have recently taken up rescuing old computers from the junk yard and restoring them, ill turn them into retro gaming pcs so people can just have one box instead of 20 of them with there own tangle of controllers
That’s an intetesting hobby, nice one in fact.
Nice PC you have dude, what RAM, Motherboard, CPU, GPU, HDD/SSD, M.2 SSD, PSU, case fans, case and CPU cooler do you have?.
I have a Corsair RM 700W PSU, RyZen 9 3900X CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, HyperX 64GB(x2) RAM, Antec DF700, case, Corsair RGB liquid CPU cooler, Corsair RGB case fan(x4) Samsung EVO 1TB M.2 SSD, Kingston 1TB SSD, SeaGate 2TB HDD(x2) and ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Wi-Fi motherboard.
And it's pretty cool what you do, i don't do the same what you're doing now, but i help friends build their PCs and also sell them spare parts like SSDs, RAMs, HDDs, PSUs, etc.
Interesting... If you ever find a good and relatively cheap PSU for a retro computer (with a strong 5v line) let me know. I could use a bunch of those...

Thank you, I do find comfort in doing this

My own computer consists of a Ryzen 5 3600, the motherboard is and ASUS Prime-B550 Plus, I have an 850 watt PSU, 4tb of hdd storage (I plan on replacing them with ssds of equal capacity), and whatever graphics car I could find at the time, which was a 750 Ti on eBay for $20

That really depends, I beilieve that the early 2000s is when there was a shift from all sorts of PSUs for different computers, to the current day form factor of ATX, so if your looking for ATX, I can help you with that, but if it’s a different form factor then you’ll have to be specific, but yeah, I usually harvest the parts out of computers that are just not repairable, as replacing the parts would be close to “new” computer money, so I’ll probably find a PSU you need, you need something along the lines of 300 Watts right?

Sorry, I kind of lost track of that post...
What I'm looking for is a brand new PSU with a good 5v line to power this thing:
Ever since my old Chieftec died, the above PC has been in the basement, collecting dust. In theory, any new PSU should work here, but people I know tried to run similar hardware, and even with good PSU brands it was unstable due to high demand on the 5v line.
If you know some verified (and relatively cheap ) new PSU that should handle the above, please let me know .

You are probably looking for something like This
You’ll notice that it has an 80+ bronze rating, 80+ being the scale that tells you weather it is reliable or not with not having one being that it will explode, and platinum being that it could last you decades before it fails, and 500 Watts is probably overkill for your spec unless you want to upgrade your system in the future, if not, somewhere around 350 to 450 Watts is your best bet

Hmm, it looks interesting, very similar to my old Chieftec. I will give it a look - thanks !

No problem, good luck
I have a question will you update it never ends
5525240
I unfortunately will not, but it is being adopted, at least that’s what he told me, he just wants me to hold onto it until he finished his collage semester, which should be soon
Will you tell us who will be adopting it

When he adopts it, because he might just cancel 5 mins before I give it to him, so I might as well not cause confusion
