Please tell me the English subtitles are just. like. this. · 11:39pm May 3rd, 2021

Every so often, if I want to make a bad day worse, I run a search for MLP:FIM Blu-Ray sets. Just in the event that somehow, somewhere, a complete series assembly was released and no one just bothered to tell us.

I need to clear this up immediately: I did not find one. Not even a bootleg homeburn version. What I did locate was a set which appears to be exclusive to Japan.

So. Nothing really special, in some ways. From what I can tell from the description in the eBay listing, Season 1 was broadcast in Japan during 2014: this set collects the results. Under normal circumstances, it would pretty much be for completists only. It's just that...

...the description...

In 2014 Was Broadcast On Tv Tokyo Series Tv Animation "My Little Pony - Friend Is Magic -" The Best Selection All 26 Episodes, Set For Release In A Bd-Box! [Contents] ¡ Disc1 Op Lucky Girl (Non-Ticker) # 1 Welcome Ponibiru To # 2 Friend Is Trying To Magic # 3 A Sleepover! # 4 Winter Clean Up # 5 I Of Cutie Mark # 6 Rariti Dress # 7 Sonic Rain Blanking ...

...and that's where it cuts off.

Just when it was getting good, too. Although there is another joke at the very end.

So. Three things.

First, remember when we were rewriting episode titles as light novels? This may call for a restyled Round Two.

Second: if anyone has Google-Fu on the tenth-dan level, I'd appreciate it if you would try to find this set somewhere else. Because it's unlikely that there are English subtitles on everything and they're all just. like. this... but I'd pay to find out. Which is to say, I'd pay -- ultra-tight budget, unstable income, but potentially golden hours of comedy -- $40 or so, plus shipping. I think it's worth that much just for the dice roll to see what else might have been done.

But that brings us to #3. I'm willing to pay that price+S&H for the set. I'd find a way to shuffle the numbers. But I am not asking anyone to buy this for me. (My current Ko-Fi goal remains extra Harwick cover art.) And if you want to get it for yourself... believe me, I'd understand. Your budget on Possibly Funny is likely higher than mine.

It'll have to be.

I said this was an eBay listing. I'd be remiss if I didn't give everyone the chance to buy it. Just... make sure you're sitting down before you take a look. And you're sitting among soft surfaces. Plus there should probably be someone who can call 911 for you. Just in case.

This link goes to the seller's eBay item page.

Told you there was another joke.

My Little Pony Can't Possibly Want Me To Be Their Friendship Student, Can They?

Coming to a mediocre seasonal anime release near you never, I hope

We are located in Japan a suburban city of kyoto

I'm sorry, you have the wrong universe. Enoby is that way.

Well, my Google-fu may not be that good, but my wikido is enough to look up the episode titles in Japanese and translate them... through Google. But there's really not much to report beyond descriptions of the upcoming episode. Perhaps the most notable is "The Show Stoppers" getting rendered as "Pounding Live!" Pretty sure Cheerilee would veto any possible interpretation of that as an act in the talent show.

Friend Is Trying to Magic :D

I of Cutie Mark.

Well then, you do you friend.

"Sonic Rain Blanking". Sounds like what might happen if a geriatric Rainbow Dash tried a Sonic Rainboom. There's firing blanks, and then there's firing Rainblanks.

Looks like Amazon Japan is charging about the equivalent of 245 bucks for it, give or take. Also, since it appears to be a Japanese release, it doesn't appear to have English subtitles, but does say it has both language tracks.

Also, I looked at the Amazon listing, and the one who translated from the Japanese is a bit off. For example, sonic rain blanking is actually the transliteration of the words sonic rain boom. So although less funny I have no idea where the translator got sonic rain blanking when it clearly says sonic rain boom.

I mean yes, doki doki is literally the sound of a pounding heart, but normally it means nervousness. So, Doki Doki raibu would be something like "nerve-racking performance"

So very much yes. That one got me the most, made me actually laugh out loud at it.

glad I'm not the only one keenly interested in getting a complete pysical set of fim. I got a complete set digitaly but I prefer having dvds/blu rays/ *insert uninvented super cd type here* just in case.

All your bases ponies are belonging to us!

Firing blanks? But Rainbow’s a mare. She can’t really fire— :pinkiegasp: :pinkiecrazy:

O.K., there’s two options here. Option 1 is if we’re talking about fluids. So, projectile female ejaculation. At the speed of sound. Which would essentially be a weak water jet cutter, but I.I.R.C. Rainbow’s mach cone signifies the sonic rainboom is performed at something like mach 5, so… actually a double strength water jet cutter. Option 2 is if we’re talking about genetic material, then it’s projectile ovulating. For her to still have blanks that can actually be fired she’d have to have existent but completely non‐viable eggs.

So I'm a changeling. So what?

So glad that the example set forward by English as She is Spoke is still carried on in our digital age.

You realise, Estee, that now you HAVE to write a scene from DELWMG where Cerea gets her hands on a prototype amulet that translates into Engrish.

...Wha...
That price.
How?

I think because the box set first came out in 2017. It's likely somewhat rare now, plus it's an import title... kinda. Locally dubbed.

Here it is for the rock-bottom price of ~$147 USD. I found at least a dozen places selling it and that is the cheapest one on the Internet by like, $40 at least. I'm pretty sure it was a super limited run.

Unfortunately, I also don't think it has official English subs. I found a few episodes with fan subs, but alas, those feature perfectly reasonable back translations.

Here's a slightly uncanny consolation prize, though

I'd be shocked if it has official subs; odds are any English description is just them smashing it through an auto-translator and posting it.

The original FIM dub in Japan used most of the Milky Holmes members, at least two of whom are majorly successful VAs now; this is honestly one of the funniest parts because seeing Mimorin as Pinkie Pie is a trip when normally she plays the straight-laced aloof-serious intelligent dedicated girl in whatever idol/magical girl/etc thing she's in.

Ahh, thanks.
