The Way of Water Leads to One Beautiful Splash

    Hello everyone,

I just came back from watching Avatar: The Way of Water.

And much like the first one, there's one main word I can describe it as: though I think Countess Coloratura puts it best:

    Deadlines suck

    Hey everyone,

So, due to a lot of Real Life getting in the way, I wanted to let everyone who's been reading along to Star of the Sea know that our chapter publishing is going to get very shaky.

Used to be I'd try to make sure we posted every Friday. But due to some scheduling concerns and overall being incredibly busy, I felt it best to take that deadline off.

Update on 'Scales and Fur'; the new Diamond Dog · 5:08pm Apr 30th, 2021

Hello, and welcome to another update on my adaptation of 'Howlite Howler.'

So, morion87 (thank you very much for pointing this out to me, by the way ) noted that if I published 'Howlite Howler' as it's own fantasy novel, I'd be hit with a 'cease and desist' from Hasbro, since Howlite Howler uses MLP characters.

However, just as Mane6 and their video game 'Them's Fighting Herds' got around the copyright infringement by making their own characters, I have made my own OCs to replace the Hasbro characters in my story. And for this week, I'd like to introduce the one who will be replacing the Diamond Dogs as Shiva's main ally against her oppressors:

Myst and her demi-wolf Hunters and Huntresses.

Inspired by: Adam Taurus (RWBY), the Predators (Aliens Vs. Predator) and Lucario (Pokemon)

Appearance (sorry for using words over pictures, but this site won't accept any of my concept art :flutterrage: :twilightangry2:)
Myst resembles a Lucario in Predator armor; she's an anthropromorphic wolf, with dreadlocks that reach down to her shoulders. Standing six foot, seven inches tall, her eyes are an eerie glowing gold, and her fur is a wispy black that resembles a smoldering fire. In place of the Predator mask, she wears a white and red kitsune mask that takes inspiration from the Grimm masks used by the White Fang of RWBY. Her dreadlocks are tied together with locks of hair, fur and even scales from opponents that she's killed.

Her Hunters/Huntresses are similarly anthropromorphic wolves dressed in Predator-styled armor, though their masks are far less detailed than hers, and they come in a variety of other colors, ranging from yellow, gray and black. Her three main minions (Luke, Marcus and Dawn) also have the faces of domestic dogs, having been dogs before Myst converted them into wolves. Luke has the face of a Labrador, Marcus a husky, and Dawn a Dalmatian.

Background
Myst used to be two separate beings: a fighting pit wolf and a conspiracy theorist named Beatrice Madden. Beatrice was captured by a witch/mad scientist who had the goal of making dogs into men (think Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but with dogs instead of apes). Using Beatrice and the fighting pit dog, the witch/mad scientist used a demonic ritual that fused Beatrice with the dog, creating the first demi-wolf: half human and half wolf.

With the fighting pit dog having suffered a very abusive past as... well, a fighting dog, and Beatrice herself having lost her trust in her country's leadership, which she found out was funding the witch/mad scientist, the resulting demi-wolf, Myst, was imbued with a hatred for humans that went well past misanthropy. Destroying the lab that created her and sending the witch/mad scientist on the run, Myst figured out how she was created, and began turning other abused dogs into demi-wolves as well, killing their masters by using them for the ritual.

Instead of Shiva being transported to another planet by a magical mishap, she now becomes Myst's latest recruit in an effort to wipe out the human race, take revenge for the pain she went through, and create a planet not of apes, but of canines.

Personality
Due to Myst's background, she has a passionate hatred for humans, seeing only the bad in them and being completely convinced that humans are evil creatures that must be killed. However, it is offset by her loyalty to canines. Beatrice was an avid animal lover before the experiment, and her love was passed on to Myst, causing her to genuinely care for the demi-wolves she converts, and seeing what she's doing as 'freeing' them from lives of servitude and enslavement.

Myst genuinely wants the best for her wolves, and thinks that the only way to give them a good life is to eliminate humanity's hold on the planet. It will be up to Shiva to prove Myst wrong about humans and stop her crusade before it takes them to a place they can't come back from.

Differences from 'Howlite Howler'
Myst will be replacing the Diamond Dogs from "Howlite Howler." However, where the Diamond Dogs were much more weak-willed and willing to follow Shiva after she scared their Alpha with a magic display, Myst is going to be a much tougher nut to crack. As not only is she the one who gave Shiva her power, but she is also actively hunting down humans - another difference from the diamond dogs, who would just enslave any ponies that trespassed on their territory. While Myst does care about Shiva and is her best defense against the humans that will see Shiva as just a monster, Shiva will need to confront and defeat Myst in order to prove to the humans that she is not just another one of Myst's beasts, stop the war that has raged between Myst and the humans, and finally find peace on the crazy world she has been thrust into. And meanwhile, Myst is going to have to struggle with the fact that one of her beloved fellow wolves does not agree with her methods, and if she's really the hero of wolves that she thinks she is.

So, what do you think of Myst? Please let me know in the comments below. And as always, thank you for reading.

To keep howlite howler, the name? Could you not just change the name of this story? I know that...is not really your point? Im curious if you thought of keeping the name?

Im curious if you thought of keeping the name?

Honestly, I'd really like to keep the name. But I'm worried that since it's already established as the fanfiction, that it might get confusing.

Plus, Shiva's technically not a diamond dog in the original fantasy's continuity. Granted, she just sort of assumed the role of a diamond dog while technically being an uplifted canine, but Myst and her demi-wolves aren't technically diamond dogs, which does beg the question of how Shiva could be referred to as the Howlite Howler when she's not associated with diamond dogs.

Though, at the same time, I had plans for a few other stories that revolved Marvel-style around the same universe. The overarching series is technically 'Of Scales and Fur,' and up until now, I've been calling Shiva's story, 'Of Scales and Fur; the Tale of Shiva.'

Do you think I could get away with calling it, "Of Scales and Fur: the Tale of the Howlite Howler"? I will be honest, I really like the title 'Howlite Howler.' And if I can get away with figuring out how Shiva can be referred to by that title, I'd be more than happy to have her keep it in the 'Of Scales and Fur' novel.

Sorry if this got a little long, but I hope it answered your question. Please let me know if it didn't. :twilightsheepish:

Remember when I helped you post images on that one forum in Friendship Is Awesomes? You might be able to put that to use here so you won't have to describe Myst.
