76th Anniversary of Elbe Day · 5:46pm Apr 26th, 2021
Hello, everyone!
I felt inspired to post this, but unfortunately this is a day late. On the 25th of April,1945, a momentous occasion in the Second World War happened: the meeting of American and Soviet troops on the river Elbe. Both being allies at the time, the two armies met each other with tears, handshakes, hugs, and of course: alcohol.
It was an indication that the war in Europe was certainly going to come to an end after years of bloodshed and devastation. Sure enough, Germany would surrender unconditionally just over a week and a half later.
It is a shame that this occasion isn't spoken about more, but it is one of the more touching pieces of history that I feel should be brought forward more.
To the heroes and their eternal sacrifice.
Simulated Hugs for all my Russian friends here!
You always manage to bring something forward that I didn't know about.
Cheers, Myk!
First time hearing of this... But yeah. Here's to the heroes of the past. The rough men, standing ready to ensure we slept safely at night.
And here's to our current military members.
Cheers!
Sounds about right.
