It’s funny that the top 3 stories in the Displaced group aren’t even actually Displaced stories.
I uploaded SMoTE to the Displaced group when I first thought of having it actually be a Displaced story, but I changed my mind and I think a lot of readers were actually happy to hear that. I think it says quite a bit about Displaced stories that the top three aren’t even really Displaced. I am sorry to take The Mighty Warrior of Epicness’ place, that story is one of the genuinely good Displaced stories I’ve read that adheres to the rules of Displaced stories. Give MWE a read and maybe a like if you ever have time and you haven’t already.

Nnnope. While it uses (or used) the merchant mechanic to be Skeletor, I'm changing it up a bit so that it's not the merchant anymore. Comic con and the costume are still part of the lore, but now I have an explanation other than, "Bought an actually magic staff from a guy with a funny accent."
No crossovers, no giant harems after just telling Luna, "I like stars", and no Tokens. Nothing against Displaced writers, I was just upset at the people in charge of the group and took mine out of the Displaced multiverse out of spite.

The fact that it isn't Displaced is awesome in my opinion. The Displaced continuity was a good idea that ultimately just ended up with a lot of half baked stories and random crossovers between stories that seemed to only be there to fit the genre. There used to be a group for stories like Skeletor called Renegade Dispaced, for Displaced-like stories that didnt fit with Dispaceds shared rules. Unfortunately i think it was deleted when Dispaced fell out of favor.

I remember seeing that group and thinking, "Why would someone like crossover stories like these but hate the Displaced Group." Current me would have sat past me down and explained all the flaws with the Displaced group. I have a newfound loathing for that group. Nothing against the stories about Displaced or anything like that, I just don't like the group in general.

They used to be really toxic to authors and fans back when it was super popular. If you didnt like their format they bullied you relentlessly. Caused several authors to stop writing altogether, which is always sad to see.

I... admittedly had a few of my own half-baked ideas for that group before. As much as I loved the concept of a Dark Souls-like crossover system that had been put in place with the original few stories like the one about Dullahan (Now Auric Fulcrum) and Gilgamesh... A lot of the stories just ended up being about over-powered characters thrown into the world of Equestria for no other reason than they were over-powered.
One of the things I was genuinely sad about because there were a lot of REALLY awesome concepts in there, then they got obsessed about major events as if it were the next MCU or something because of one guy being Makuta Teridax and his personal mission to become the ultimate rival for Auric... it got out of hand WAY too quickly.
I guess I got sucked into the hype because I'm the type of person who actually enjoys well thought out Isekai stories.

I think a lot of us have gone through a Displaced phase. It's a power fulfillment fantasy and it doubles as an opportunity to explore characters and ideas that their canon counterparts never did. I always wanted more Bizarro content, so I slapped a story together, put it out there, and now I've taken what I've learned from that and put it into SMoTE. Isekais are a fun genre to explore.
