4/14/21 Update · 9:59pm Apr 14th, 2021
Hey all,
Didn't plan on making another blog post this month without having a new story to go alongside it, but here we are. This is pretty much going to be a follow up to my post from the third. The main thing I wanted to touch on was that Gingerbread House of Cards is not going to be done by Saturday. I mentioned in the last post I hoped to have it out in about two weeks, and figured it’d be a good idea to explain what’s causing the holdup.
First, a small issue I was having with writer's block that slowed progress on Gingerbread to a crawl. I mentioned it in the post earlier this month, but I spent writing and rewriting the same two scenes over and over again. Nothing I did felt like it was working – neither enjoyable or compelling enough to hold anyone’s attention. Fortunately, I broke through that rut and managed to put a pair of scenes that I don’t want to tear apart and start over. That’ll come in editing, this time.
Second, even if I had managed to write the whole story by today, I’d prefer a bit more time to edit and refine the story. Putting an unnecessary deadline on the story would surely just make it worse. Consequences of Your Failure was proof enough of that for me. Reading the first chapter is like swallowing a pill the size of a brick. It’s rough.
Third, the scope of the story might have ever so slightly expanded. When I first mapped out Gingerbread House of Cards, I expected the story to be around 6 to 7k words and be a single chapter. Currently I'm at 9k, and it's not even done yet. Seeing as it’s already blown past the idea of it being a single one-shot chapter, I’m thinking of expanding the B-plot that already existed. That said, I won’t know for sure if that’s the direction I want to go until I start working on it.
Sorry for the delay. Hopefully I’ll have Gingerbread House of Cards out sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, if people are looking for a light read (since I wasn’t able to provide), I suggest checking out A Thread in Twine by Vis-a-Viscera. It’s a fun little slice of life comedy featuring Rarity and Coco Pommel. Just an FYI, though, some of the author’s other stories do go into the NSFW territory. Just a little warning in case some of you read while in public places and want to avoid any unexpected awkwardness.
