[Long-Distance] Sunk Cost Fallacy · 7:29am Apr 11th, 2021
I almost didn't publish this at all. Three weeks into the contest time, I still had 0 words down, and an ambitious idea I knew I would need all 15kw to develop. I should have known then that it was not enough time, and gone with something less ambitious, if anything at all.
But I did write all of these words, and though I could not get them to cohere into what I feel is a good story, I figure a possibly mediocre story for a good cause (both contest and gay charity number go up) is better than nothing.
If you do read these words, I hope you find something in them to enjoy. There are some good ideas in there, and a few decent sections. But I do think that it falls short of what it could have been.
But since I feel not quite satisfied with the SunFlower I wrote in this story, I will definitely have another go at it some point in the near future, based off a second plot idea I had. I like the ship!
And if eons from now my heart can take the thought of it, I may come back to fully develop these ideas which had so much potential, and properly write the story I envisioned, which will also probably need a lot more than 15kw.

Hmm. So would you recommend reading this one anyway? I'd probably do it even with this blog post, except that I'm fairly low on time just at the moment. I may still get to it at some later point, though, even if you don't recommend doing it sooner.

Uh, what? Mediocre?
You said it yourself. There are good ideas, and some great sections. Why would you call it mediocre? Things can not meet our perfect vision and still be well-made.
Like... I liked it. Faved it. Didn't adore every inch of it. The other comments are pretty clearly seeing this story in a good light. The judges will be moved, probably place it incredibly high (I mean, top three kind of high). It's almost kind of an insult to call it mediocre before then? At least to the other contestants, and judges. Unless this is one of those things, like 'It was so bad... oh, they think it's good!'
But hey, I would like to see more written, so I guess it is a win? I am following you, so I will read it!
