Macross US official · 3:39pm Apr 9th, 2021
Harmony Gold and BIGWEST have reached an actual agreement and the Macross Series will have an official US Release! About goddamned time!

While I don't hold any particular hate towards the amalgam that created Robotech and its fandom—especially since like most 80s kids I found that first before knowing that Macross was the "good part" of it (Southern Cross was crap. Sorry. It was. And Mospeada was... turned into something else)—it's been particularly frustrating to not be able to get any official Macross on this side of the world due to HG's desperate and underhanded maneuvering to keep the license here and effectively blocking a legendary series from reaching the continent's coasts out of what amounts to little more than pettiness.
I've never made a secret that I've been a long-time Macross fan. Not to the level of certain friends, but I moderated a Macross site, did some podcasts covering it back in the 2ks, included gratuitous cameos in my stories, and even helped with some feedback when fanlations were coming out. Let's just say this was a long time overdue, and if it wasn't for this particular company's BS, more people would have been exposed to the glory of Sharon Apple, Walkure, Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee, Fire Bomber, etc.

Above: Something to thank me for later.
Now we might have new movies and shows coming since there seems to be more energy infused into this... and I honestly can't wait. Especially since I can always watch more of my waifu (Mirage) on screen.

Yak Deculture!
As long as they show Roy's true death scene and not that abomination they showed in 'Robotech'
5493726 According to Kotaku and other sources, they'll have unedited Macross releases. I don't think they'll redo Robotech to be more loyal to the original.
Also, is it just me that get's an error fetching image?

The one with the caption "Pictured: The the almost complete glory that is Lin Minmei, Ranka Lee, Sheryl Nome, Walkure, Basara Nekki and Mylene Jenius"? Yeah, error.
Well hopefully everything works here
Which series?
Awesome.
"If we get the transient facts, then we feel the info high."
That phrase is going to be running through my head again and again and again all day long. I don't know whether to thank you or strangle you.
5493808 you're welcome

I'm excited about this as well! I got the same fetching error, also.
5493841 5493740 Fixed! I guess it was too big.
5493776 Presumably? All.

Looks cool!
Now all we need is a crossover with MLP.

Now you're expecting Harmony Gold to work with Hasbro? Delusion! :P
Woho! \o/
As a old school Battletech player I loathe Harmony Gold with a passion as hot as the sun. I hold out hope they do Macross Frontier and Delta in English finally though but music rights I see are not among the rights talked about.
Toy Galaxy, over at YouTube, has done a 4-part series about Harmony Gold and their licensing:
My overall takeaway is that the Harmony Gold license expires (or has expired) in 2021.

I liked Roy's death in Robotech. Out of all the character death's I've seen, his was the one that affected me the most profoundly. There was no glory, no glamour; he died quietly, and alone. More, it was a death that was completely avoidable. Had he swallowed his pride and gotten a doctor to look at him, they'd have prevented it. It was a more sad, human, intimate death than we normally see in these things.
Fighter jets look so cool
5498048 True story, the dude that designed them for this anime got a recognition from NASA for later designs.

That's high praise. Reminds me of that girl who drew MLP fanart and now works for Hasbro on G5. The real life version of "Notice me, Senpai" going right haha.
