On Wings of War Surplus Eagles and Star Trek First Contact

I wanted to do something awesome for First Contact Day, when a bunch of ragged misfits patched together a working spacecraft out of junk and launched it, resulting in a meeting with powerful alien creatures who would change their lives forever. This one has alicorns.

I never would have written this story without Kris Overstreet’s inspiration over years of his space-based stories and blogs (which are ongoing, thanks to Kerbal Space Program). His epic Changeling Space Program and The Maretian are well worth the time.

In addition, Xepher and his Iron Author contests have pushed me beyond my self-imposed limits to the point where I actually managed to eek (from the noise I made when I found out) out a tie for second place with Aquaman in the last Everfree NorthWest Iron Author contest.
