Why does life always have to be so ironic?

    I'm still here

At home, have not been out today, and no plans of going out.

Just feel it's worth mentioning since I'm seeing things on the news about a shooting being filmed in an area in pretty easy walking distance of me...

    Internet

Just thought I'd mention my internet went down 12/13 hours ago, and is still down. Sort of have cellular internet, but a very bad connection...

Have the 4th off as a holiday day, at least, and went and scheduled the day afterwards off, just in case I need it for getting my internet back up and running.

Good news, bad news, computer-wise, I guess? · 2:27am Mar 30th, 2021

The computer dying re: my last blog happened shortly before work, so I hadn't really had time to troubleshoot too much.

I've now been off work an hour, figured out the issue, and got the computer working! Mostly.

The computer actually acted like it wanted to start up after I pulled the graphics card out, so I fiddled with it a bunch, and put it in a different slot, and I was able to get it to boot up! (Fortunately. That's a good graphics card, and I'd be irritated if it'd died.)

Bad news is that my internet on that computer was going through a usb dongle plugged in back that turned out to be cheaply made and kinda broke in the process (The plug was bent at an angle, and the metal part of the port came off when I was trying to straighten it. I was trying to straighten it 'cause it wasn't working, so...) . So the computer works, but no internet unless I run a ethernet cable all the way across my living room, I guess. I might have another wifi adapter somewhere around. Should probably just buy a card for it.

At least it's not something major, and replacing the wifi shouldn't be too expensive. The case sorta sucks, and the motherboard should probably be replaced at some point. The sound stopped working on it one day, and I plugged in a sound usb dongle instead. But I don't actually have to do it now, at least.

Sorry to hear about your computer troubles. I wouldn't wish those to my worst enemies. Hopefully things aren't too bad, right?

I'm glad to hear your graphics card is still in good shape. now is not the time to get a new one, that's on the assumption you can even find a new one. all the good cards are sold out everywhere in store and online. unless you pay a scalper 3 times what it's worth

Not too bad. I ordered a pcie wifi card on amazon, so I'm waiting on that. It would have been much worse if it was the graphics card, motherboard, or processor!

If I looked around enough in boxes, I might've been able to find an old one that still worked, but, yeah, I'm glad I don't have to. (And there's a fair chance I'd have turned up one that didn't work, too. I tend to save old computer hardware, and tend not to note why it was replaced...)

Hey, hope you are doing well.

May I ask how old the computer is? I don't want to sound rude but it doesn't sound like it's in the best of conditions.

It's kinda a frankencomputer, so no real specific age on it. Every part in it's been replaced at some point, including the motherboard and case. The case is kinda old, though, at this point, and I was planning on replacing that at some point in the future. Things got shuffled around a bunch at one point, and I think that's when the problem with the sound happened.

Ah well I hope you get that sorted out soon! At the very least you do have a phone and something to keep the entertainment side settled, I hope. Including FimFiction

I've got multiple computers, to that part wasn't an issue. This was just the one that's running windows, has the graphics tablet and art programs I like, and is the one I run all the games that need any sort of good graphics card on. Most of the other computers around are on Linux.

The pcie wifi card I ordered came in (yay amazon next day free shipping), and I had some issues installing it, but I got it working. I think the pcie cards are really touchy, and when I'm feeling like spending a bunch of money, I really should replace the motherboard and case. I managed to reproduce the original issue with the wifi card in the pcie card the graphics card used to be in!
