    Newsies #46: That's Life

So. There's been a LOT happening in the life of this one sad brony, lately.

Started with me and my mom being forced to change shifts at work, due to her medical issues, which left me with what felt like no time to write anything.

Then, I got diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, which I'm now on meds for.

    Newsies #43

So, this is really just a quick update regarding the newest chapter of Timberjack. I published it in a bit of a hurry, yesterday, and upon reading it over properly a bit later, I noticed the inordinate amount of typos.

I spent my lunch hour last night going back over it, fixing all of them I saw and also restructuring some of the sentences a little.

Birth of a Story: Wicked Games · 1:49pm Mar 29th, 2021

So, where did 'Wicked Games' come from? What spawned this idea, and what is the background behind it?

The next chapter is going to include a lot of backstory and details regarding the past, as well as the present, some of which I'm still working out. As such, it might take me a bit longer to get finished than the last one. However, I thought I might make a little blog post telling you all a bit about where the idea for this story originated.

Simply put, it started out as an RP between myself and a close friend, we started back around December of 2019, right after the show itself ended. He liked the show, but hadn't kept up with it since season four, due to just not having time to watch it. He's since started watching again, and most recently was up to the end of season 6.

We had done a bit of an MLP inspired RP before, that was an Anthro AU, Medieval/Fantasy setting, featuring him playing his preferred main character, a human-in-Equestria based, mostly, off of himself, and that's what this started out as. Just another run-of-the-mill, basic D&D style story that I hadn't really put much thought into beyond "Have an awesome, action packed intro to show off how badass everyone is". The usual faire, eh?

Then, that week sometime, I watched 'Joker', with Joaquin Phoenix, and fell absolutely in love with the amount of story-telling they did with a character who, traditionally, has no backstory. Much like a certain little filly we all know.

It was then that I started brainstorming up this idea for a similar kind of backstory to put to my own version of Cozy Glow, and, in the process I had the thought.

I ran it past him and he okayed it, and so it was that I began working hard and heavy on setting up the basics for the storyline for our RP: A dark, adult-themed retelling of the events of Season 8.

We are currently still running this RP, and at this point, we are coming closer to the finale, and he still doesn't know that Cozy's the villain. He suspects, but, much like many of us did watching the actual series, he thinks she's working for someone else, not that she's the mastermind.

I basically took what the writers attempted to do in the actual series, but couldn't due to time restraints and Hasbro (I'm assuming) breathing down their necks, and played it up. The red herrings are abundant, not only with an OC that I threw in to act as an agent of Cozy's, as well as her having control of a Diamond Dog pack, for story reasons, but also having Chrysalis taking a much larger role, with her being in Ponyville from very early on, in the guise of Shutter Bug, and developing a bit of a relationship with my friend's character, before it being revealed who she really was. Now, his character is very much obsessed with finding Chrysalis, not only to try and figure out what she's up to (under the assumption that she's the one behind all the bad stuff that's been going down), but also because he's kind of in love with her.

I think, at this point, he might be thinking that Cozy might be Chrysalis in disguise, or at the very least that she's working for her, or someone else, but I don't know.

He DOES know about this story, but he doesn't actually come on FiMFiction, and I've told him there are spoilers for the RP in this, so he can't read it. Right now, he's under the assumption that the psychopath helping the guard is a stallion, and I've conveniently not corrected him. :trixieshiftright:

Anyway . . . So, yeah, there's a LOT of backstory to the RP, and a lot of main story still to be explored, and all of that . . . basically minus his character, for now, is what I've used as the background here. This is meant to be that Cozy Glow, twelve years later.

I might do another of these, later. As for right now, I am making progress on the next chapter, slowly but surely. There will, however, be a couple of parts that need to be rewritten before it's ready to publish. I'll try to have it ready to go in the next couple of weeks, but we'll have to see.
