Most Common Series Tags On Stories

While I was putting up a new story for publication, I got distracted (as is wont, oh hey, my drinks empty brb) by the series tag. As most of you probably already know, when you post a story, you have to choose a series tag of which series that piece is fanfiction. Conveniently, when typing in the proper tags, it also shows the number of times that tag has been used.

So, of course I went and checked what series had the most stories posted of them on Fimfiction. The numbers were recorded 3/26/21, 8 am GMT.

Not MLP-related series:
1. Fallout (obviously. Thanks Kkat ^^) - 495
2. Pokemon (Crippling Depression, I choose you!) - 185
3. Star Wars (this is not the tag you were looking for) - 134

The next contenders were much closer to one another in terms of numbers and are subjected to much change in their ordering, should people wish to write about them en-masse.

4. Sonic (chilidogs!) - 116
5. Doctor Who (if I put a Weeping Angel in this post, would you dare look away?) - 110
6. Dragon Ball Z (Hang on, I gotta power up for like 3 episodes) - 107
7. Yu-Gi-Oh (Little Kuriboh's wet dream) - 104
8. Warhammer (It was cool before Starcraft ripped them off. Also red makes it go faster) - 101

The next ones went under 100, so I didn't bother listing them. Personally, I was a little surprised that Harry Potter (75) and Star Trek (56) didn't rank higher, whereas Undertale (87) beat them both.

Naturally, it is possible there are more stories that lack the proper tagging, but there is no sensible way for me to locate them in a timely manner. Neither does this really show how much has been written of those series, as it doesn't show story length. But in terms of sheer numbers, I found this interesting.

So, how do you spend your mornings?

I forgot to put in that while I don't consider this to be empirical evidence, I think it sort of points in the right direction.

Also, to hammer in the impact that Fallout: Equestria has had on this fandom:

MLP: The Movie tag has been used 603 times, MLP: the Comic tag 319. There are more Fallout: Equestria - style stories on Fimfic, than there are stories based on the comics, and close the same amount as the movie.
