Open Invitation to Audiobook Producers | Empathy for the Devil · 11:30pm Mar 19th, 2021
Different kind of post this time. We got a request from someone over on Tumblr who, due to their ADHD and dyslexia, would prefer to listen to Empathy for the Devil than read it. And we'd love to make that happen, if possible!
I know for a fact we have multiple dyslexic readers at this point, not just the person who asked, and audiobooks are awesome for everyone regardless. Accessibility is rad all around!
Unfortunately, I don't have the talent or equipment to perform and produce a reading/audiobook. My voice isn't all that dulcet, and while I can do a halfway decent Rainbow Dash impression, you... probably don't need to hear it (not without alcohol in your system). At one point last year, Wubcake was interested (a fact I can share since she said so publicly), but she's since moved on from the fandom.
It always seemed to me that most fandom voice actors chose what they were interested in producing most of the time, rather than taking requests. As is their right! And Empathy for the Devil being a longer story means it's not as simple as a one-shot. Because of those things, I would normally feel a bit self-conscious putting out a post like this (don't want to come off as presumptuous!), but if it ends up happening and helping out our dyslexic readers, then it's worth it! Plus, of course Bevin and I would love to hear it!
So, like always, it's entirely up to anyone who wants to have fun doing it. Consider this an open invitation! Let's make things as accessible as possible! If you'd like to give it a shot, get in contact with me. I'll be more than happy to give you early access to the full story for recording purposes 👍
If you're in the category of fan who'd also like to hear an audiobook, we super appreciate advice and/or polite requests sent to your favourite fandom audiobook producer/VA. Important Note: If that producer doesn't take unsolicited requests, please respect their wishes! Always respect the fan-creators first! If you want to listen to their audiobooks, listen to them 😉

Hmmm, lemme read what you've got so far, then let me get back to you. I've never done an audio book before, but I've acted on stage multiple times, done foli, and spend lots of time reading out loud to kids.

Haha, you wouldn't be the first author I've had to read ahead for. I did a commission art for Dewdrops and her story just a couple weeks ago.
