For the recent arrivals to the Followers, a bit of backstory. My earliest successful story in the fandom (and for a long while, my defining work) was 'Dear Sweetie Belle.' The genesis of that story came from the 2011 revelation that the man whom I'd known as my father for my entire life was, in fact, not my biological father. I used 'Dear Sweetie Belle' to work out my feelings about all that, and as a result I think it still stands as one of my stronger works.
For the past several years, specifically since the birth of my first son, the drive to find the other half of my lineage has grown stronger and stronger. Not only do I want to know the name and face of the man who gave me half his DNA, but I would also like to know that half of the familial medical history.
This past Christmas, my wife's gift was an Ancestry DNA Kit.
Yesterday, the results arrived.
And I found him.
DNA Match is 100%. No question. Going by photos, we even have shockingly similar facial structure. I gave his name to my Mom, and she was shocked as he never crossed her mind as a potential candidate. Apparently his place was the hang-out spot back in the college days, and everyone would get together there to drink and party.
I've messaged him explaining who I am and what it is that I want, though I said that I'd understand if he doesn't want to contact me back. Must be quite a shock to find out you have a 31 year old son. I hope he's open to... anything, really.
Because it turns out that I've got another sister, too.
It's just neat that after a decade of wondering, everything has come full circle.
