Chapter Five Part 9 Up! (March 4th) · 11:32pm Mar 3rd, 2021

Early post--again--because I’m having a really bad day so I thought I’d cheer myself and everyone else up with an early post.

So Part 9 is now up for Chapter Five, bringing this chapter to a close. It’s been quite the ride, hasn’t it?

Trixie’s execution was heartbreaking for me to write. Not only because I fell in love with her as a character throughout writing this story, but because I knew I had to write Monoponi deliberately torturing her. The poor girl didn’t deserve what he put her through.

But at the same time, as Sunset concludes… It's a fitting tribute to Trixie’s personality.

As for the conversation with Sunset and Rarity, this wasn’t quite in my original plans either, as my author’s notes made clear. Going along with prior plans, I did intend for Sunset to have an unhealthy relationship that near the end of the story, and then pick up with a more healthy one at the very end, with one of her fellow survivors. The fun fact is that, with my original survivor list… this could’ve been Trixie. I’m not adverse to shipping the two, as my two Blind Date stories ought to show. While I did go a different direction with her character in this story, there were some possibilities there.

There were other possibilities too, but I’ll stay mum on those for a little bit. Wait till, say, Chapter Six Part 3’s blog to post about that.

So why choose Rarity? Well… the reasons are all laid out in the story itself. It speaks for itself pretty much. That’s not to say that they will actually end up together, of course. (Well, I know, but I won’t be telling you that. :trollestia:)Final reflections on how the mysteries have gone in this story… it’s been quite the blast. A few missteps here and there, but on the whole it’s been an exciting, thrilling adventure. There’s one more set of mysteries to go, of course, but these will be a bit easier for you all to figure out I think. There were only so many ways to go about putting together the clues and hints, so I expect most of you to figure them out. By Chapter Six the point is the journey, not the destination. I’ve had one person read Chapter Six already, and if her reaction is anything to go by, you’re all going to love it.

Though of course, we’ve got one final check in with Princess Twilight first. We’ll see that on Saturday.

One final bit of news: I decided to submit this story to Equestria Daily’s submissions. Here’s hoping they choose to post it. And if they don’t, it won’t bother me that much. I just thought I might as well give it a shot. It’s been years since I last tried to submit to them. So we shall see.

What was the meaning of the chapter name "Whistle for the wind?" I don't recall any whistles or wind being a plot element.

It's a phrase sailors used to use, referring to the concept of whistling in the hopes of bringing up a strong wind that would blow their ship in the right direction. It effectively translates as "hope for the impossible." And that was a constant theme throughout the chapter. Sunset hoping Adagio wouldn't hurt her. Adagio hoping she could trust Sunset. Trixie hoping Sunset would be all right. Sunset hoping Trixie wasn't responsible. Rarity hoping Sunset would say yes to being in a relationship. And so on and so forth. In many ways it's the most applicable title of the entire story, but it does require interpretation to see how.

I hope EQD picks up the submission. It's been a great read so far!
