Well I missed having a blog up every month this year already. Oh well, it's not like I totally died; A Mare's Needs happened. Super happy with how that turned out, and it seems like you guys are as well. That's good. To be honest, that entire fic exists because a friend of mine posted the cover art picture in a discord and I just had to write it.
Anyway, I'm here just to let y'all know to expect relative radio silence from me for a little while. Which I understand is nothing new, but there's a good reason this time, I promise. And it is horse word related.
So, in the last ~5 days, I've written 6 thousand words on a new fic. 3.3K of that is a fully written outline, 2.5K on a rough first draft.
Why yes, first draft.
That might not sound very strange to y'all, but... well how shall I put this... I don't... write good.
By that I mean I'm honestly pretty lazy when it comes to my writing. Of my 52 published stories, and countless unpublished, I can count on one hand the number of times I've written up a proper plan. Of those, I can count on no hands the number of times I've properly drafted a story. As in, never. I don't do drafts, okay? I write what I write, maybe do an editing pass, and fling it at you when I'm sick of looking at it.
Honestly, it works fine for me. I'm not sitting here thinking I'm some kind of great messiah of writing or anything. I'm perfectly happy being painfully average, in fact, because I write purely for my own enjoyment.
However, as my writing has improved, I've found myself frustrated at the lack of quality this process (if you can even call it that) gives me. Especially on multi-chapter stories, where I feel pressured to post chapters regularly, and can't easily go back and make changes and edits once the chapter has gone up.
So, when I actually decided to plan this story because I wanted to do something more interesting with it, but found myself having a hard time getting the first scene right, I decided to give doing something properly a try.
What that's going to look like, I honestly have no idea. I'm still winging it just as much as I always have, just this time in a slightly more structured way that will result in either A,) a fully written, fully edited story being posted that I can take full pride in, or B.) I lose steam half way through the process and it never sees the light of day.
As it stands right now, I'm very hopeful for how this is going to turn out. I haven't been quite this excited to write something in quite a while, and the knowledge that this will only be posted if I finish it does two things; it removes the pressure of having a first chapter up that I feel the need to follow up and match the quality of, and it gives me an incentive to actually finish the damn thing so people can actually read it.
This all culminates in me going dark for a while to focus on this thing. I'll probably post some updates if I hit a milestone, and may take a break to finish a one shot at some point but... yeah.
Basically, I'm gonna roleplay as a competent writer for a few months and see how that goes.
Either way, when either this thing is ready to go or it falls apart and I lose interest, I'll let y'all know. Oh, and if you're curious; it's a multi-chapter porn fic with a focus on characters, that will likely end up between 40-60K words. Working title is My Girlfriend is a Succubus
Please don't get your hopes up. I'm usually pretty terrible and finishing things.
