Poland is a funny country! · 6:22pm Mar 2nd, 2021

Trying to get OTC antidepressants here:

Pharmacy 1:
"Sorry, all sold out :trixieshiftleft:."

Pharmacy 2:
"Oh, that's been out of stock for weeks... :unsuresweetie:"

Pharmacy 3:
"Nope, that's not available. You can't even order that from the warehouse at the moment :duck:."

Online pharmacies:
"Out of stock."
"Unavailable."
"Sold out."

The site to track down nearest pharmacy having the drugs:
"None found in 50 km radius!"

I began searching Google for some alternatives...

Google:
"Well... I detect 5 fully stocked liquor stores 500m or less from your current location."

Me:

And that's why Poland is a funny country :rainbowdetermined2:. Funny and happy! Almost as happy as Finland:

:rainbowlaugh:

Oh Poland, you silly country. At least you're not as bad as your brother. *Stares at Finland intensely*

Well, at least you got a laugh out of it... silly country. :facehoof:

Yikes. Sorry to hear that.

We don't have OTC antidepressants in the US, though. They all require an Rx. Unless you count something like St. John's Wort which is not a drug you should take.

Well, if you can't get drugs, you self medicate.

I had no clue OTC antidepressants existed haha. Well, except for alcohol and weed :trollestia:

Also, are you into MMA by any chance? Because Jan "Polish Power" Blachowicz is fighting in this weekend's UFC PPV, and I'm rooting for him.

Actually, yeah. Smoke some weed. I don't like the idea of drug use, but even I would say it's much less harmful than a lot of other drugs.

Results of marijuana use on depression are mixed at best. It has stronger indications for anti-anxiety, but even there for most people standard antidepressants are more likely to produce significant results.

There are a lot of kinds of antidepressants, Huk, and most take a couple weeks to start working, so perseverance is important and that can be difficult to come by when you are depressed. You need to advocate for yourself and push to be treated. I hope you have a friend or family member who can help push you toward that goal, because you don't need to suffer needlessly.

Poland is... kinda fucking scary in many places for a lot of people right now, honestly. Please take care of yourself.

5465572 Yeah, but it'd be better than nothing. In fact, the most important thing - I think - is to try something. Like you say: perseverance.

Honestly, judging by this:

Poland and Finland must be long-lost brothers :rainbowwild:.

To be fair, I only looked for one specific thing that had the best reviews. And they told me that there was a sudden surge in the sales a few weeks back (probably due to the third COVID wave + crappy and depressing weather at the time). So, it should be back on the shelves in a week or two. It sucks, but it happens.

Yeah, Poland is Poland - weird, a bit stuck in the past, moody and silly... but that's how we like it :trollestia:.

Um, St. John's Wort/Hypericum perforatum is precisely what I'm taking (I started to drink tea but wanted to buy pills with a higher dosage) :twilightsheepish:. From what I understand it's one of very few plants with clinical trials confirming it can help with light to mild depression.

Why do you say I shouldn't take it? I know you should take it for longer than a few weeks, but... other than that :rainbowhuh:?

I'm trying to push through it myself. For the first time in my life, I'm considering there may be something wrong with my head and researching how the whole flow of getting mental help works in Poland. But it probably has to go through my GP first, and... Well, let's just say that when you live in a village of 2000 where everyone knows everyone, going to your GP with mental issues is not something you want to do. And I honestly wouldn't know what to tell her not to sound like a whiny bitch :applejackunsure:.

And I'm even not sure if there is something wrong or not. I've been having these episodes of numbness for years, and I've been restricting showing certain emotions on purpose. It's been getting worse lately but judging by what happened today, it seems more and more related to politics, rising online toxicity, and changes going on around the world in general.

Can any antidepressants help when the feeling of 'not belonging' is happening due to that :unsuresweetie:?

Um, I don't know if you're referring to something beyond this blog, but if so, please don't buy into everything you hear. There is nothing special going on here. We're a normal country and have problems like every other - lately more than before, but still nothing special. Granted, we're behind in some fundamental right when it comes to LGBT people (no gay marriage, for example), and the average tolerance level is lower than in the west, but we're getting there. It's far from perfect, but what country is perfect? You'll find bigots and idiots everywhere (and on both sides of each argument).

Unfortunately, some of our politicians are trying to use that to win points, polarizing the society in the process. The media blowing every issue out of proportion is not helping matters either. A bit lighter version of what's happening in the States, and I hope it will stay that way.

See above; maybe calling St. John's Wort/Hypericum perforatum as 'antidepressant' is a stretch - I wouldn't be surprised if a professional pharmacist like you will laugh at this, but...

Also, are you into MMA by any chance? Because Jan "Polish Power" Blachowicz is fighting in this weekend's UFC PPV, and I'm rooting for him.

I'm afraid not. Lately, MMA has been on TV a lot; every few weeks, I hear 'MMA fight! Pay per view!" and stuff. I've seen some clips from fights, but no, I can't say I'm really a fan.

Not that I don't always root for our guy anyway :trollestia:

Sadly, it's still illegal here, and I'm too much of a pussy to try getting it or any other stuff like that :applejackunsure:. If I wasn't scared, I would gladly try it... or even some opioids just to see how it feels. But that's not happening... or at least, anytime soon.

"So, it should be back on the shelves in a week or two. It sucks, but it happens."

It's good that they expect to get it back in. That's been happening on and off with all kinds of supplies here, whether it makes any sense on the surface of things or not. It is especially frustrating in your situation, though, since it's a medication you hope will help.

Here's a link with more information on the plant. It's largely woo. It does have some psychoactive effects but they are not consistent and can actually interfere with other medications. Don't take it.

You need to see a doctor and get a prescription for a drug that is known to work; if it doesn't work for you, you try another drug because there are many and each only work for some people. Don't rely on OTC medicines as they will not target the problem.
