My Movie Review on How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days · 6:12am Feb 26th, 2021

Yo, what's up, Kemosabes?

This is your friendly film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

Today, for the 8th installment of my "February Festivity", I'm gonna give you guys my take of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days".

Here's the rundown of it:

Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive and ladies' man who, to win a big campaign and get a pitch of his fall through, bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Andie Anderson is a writer for the women's magazine Composure as the "How to", subject-matter expert who, in turn, is writing a story on how to lose a guy in 10 days as a bet with her boss to be allowed to write more substantial stories.

With a hidden agenda in each camp, will either party be able to complete their mission?

This film is another that I had in mind to analyze for quite a long time. Despite the fact that it wasn't something I saw all-the-time, I was interested in seeing "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" based on the positive word-of-mouth from family members and because of it starring Matthew McConaughey, whom I've been a fan of for years.

Coming from a guy who saw this movie for the very first time recently, I will admit that the movie isn't perfect.

For me, personally, the one thing I was bothered by was the amount of times a certain cuss word was used during a card game that Andie, Benj, and his family was playing. The usage of the word was not only irritable, but it caused me to have trouble getting engaged in this essential scene of Andie bonding with Benjamin's family. That and the scenes featuring Benj and Andie having sex and the sexual innuendos the film had.

Other than that, though, this movie is another romantic-comedy that I found to be quite enjoyable.

For instance, the acting, casting, characters, and character development were outstanding!

When it came to playing the character of Benj, Matthew McConaughey literally rocked the house. He portrayed his character with wonderful commitment, humor, and personality, and he certainly didn't hesitate with taking risks either. The same can pretty much be said with Kate Hudson and her performance as Andie, who definitely wasn't afraid of embarrassing herself in the moments where Andie tries to drive Benj nuts in order to make him break up with her. Plus, both Andie and Benj had dynamic development throughout the movie, and they proved themselves to be enjoyable lead characters.

The direction by Donald Petrie, and the screenplay by Kristen Buckley, Brian Regan, and Burr Steers, were likewise quite fabulous.

Similar to "50 First Dates", I couldn't help but note that there was an innocence in the humor that made it too irresistible. Every gag featured throughout the movie was executed with excellent timing, and they were so well-done I couldn't resist laughing. The movie also contained emotion and heart that helped it have a sense of something alive, which was particularly aided by the developing romance between Andie and Benj. As I think about it more, Benj and Andy weren't just the main characters of the story...they were the story. The heart and soul of it all to be precise, because without them, the concept would've clearly suffered.

In conclusion, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" isn't a flawless motion picture, and its story may not be the strongest around. But, as a romantic-comedy, the film delivered brilliantly as just that, and it proved itself to be delightful to watch and very worthwhile.

So, I rate "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" 4½ out of 5 stars.

I'll have to look into this film to make a plausible opinion on it.
