Signal Boost: Netflix and Chill? No, not like THAT! · 3:02am Feb 22nd, 2021

It’s happened again, another entry into my Not-A-Contest! This time by none other than Fable Caster:

TNetflix and Chill? No, not like THAT!
Another day, another failed job application... In other words, Andy is having a bad one. Luckily his equine housemates are there to brighten it up.

If you’ve enjoyed the million or so words I’ve written about ponies misunderstanding human culture or humans misunderstanding pony culture, this’ll be right up your alley.

To get it out of the way for any Negative Nancies in the crowd, Willow and Silver Comet’s jobs are only tangentially mentioned, but they do have jobs on Earth and since I make the rules, that makes it qualify.

Besides the (minor spoiler) soulless nature of job applications in these modern times, and the easy joke at the expense of a pony not understanding the implications of a human euphemism, this is straight up a cultural clash fic and y’all know that I love those. Different cultures have different rules for contact and what said contact implies, and there are situational factors that weigh in as well, and I’m no anthropologist, but I think it would be fair to say ‘it’s complicated.’

For once, I can combine my hobbies with my professional experience (’cause both lead to the same conclusion), and I can say with firm conviction that if you’re open-minded and willing to do what needs to be done as the situation demands, you’ll find it’s not that weird after all, and when you reflect on it, you might figure out that you’re carrying a lot of baggage you really don’t have to. *

*y’all bug me enough, and you’ll get that blog post. Chose wisely.

**not my first choice, but batpony is obligatory. Consider the non batpony option:

I prefer to choose poorly. Do it

Batponies are best ponies.

You’re preaching to the choir, my friend

That's some weapons-grade cuteness right there.:coolphoto:

I just love it

When I see a fic in the featured box and go, "Hah, no way I'll ever read that one!"

and then go into my feed to see someone recommending it :|

That one really hit home. I had my own sucky job search with borderline depression that took about 5 months. Cuddly ponies absolutely would have made that experience better.

I know this has nothing to do with the subject of this particular post, but it's something I learned that's relevant to the universe you have going and I couldn't wait to share it: according to U.S. law (specifically 15 USC § 330, passed in 1971), weather manipulation without permission from the United States Secretary of Commerce is a crime punishable by a $10,000 fine. Yes, this is a real thing. Apparently, they were worried about cloud seeding. That... makes things interesting.

The video I learned this from even had a brief clip of Rainbow Dash outside the weather factory.

Heh, just like watching someone play a troll level and there’s a box and they’re like “there’s no way I’ll wind up in that box” and then a moment later, they’re in the box.

I hope you read it and enjoyed it.

I’ve been lucky in that regard, since I have generally recession-proof skills and experience, so the longest I’ve been unemployed was a month or so, maybe not even that.

Nevertheless, cuddly ponies would have made that experience better for me as well.

Heck, cuddly ponies would make any experience better.

There are also international treaties as well (I don’t know more specifics than that).

Heh, that’s cool. Good to know whoever made that video did their research. :rainbowlaugh:

that's true, I had the ability to work online (although I'm not working online) so that helped cancel out some covid stuff. It sucked as a new grad trying to leverage into a slightly different industry. Still it all worked out.

Heck, cuddly ponies would make any experience better.

ain't that the truth.

That’s a point in your favor; my jobs are of necessity hands-on. Both in essential industries, so Covid wasn’t a factor.

ain't that the truth.

i get to work in person due to an absolute abuse of the essential worker status. There's absolutely no way that I can write software that won't be used for years from my home right? That being said, it is nice working in person.

Hm, bit of a full schedule at the moment, but I might check this out at some point; thanks for the recommendation. :)

Was it the Legal Eagle video I just got around to watching today, out of curiosity?

Legit, I was thinking as I watched it of a world where Derpy gets arrested for her mailpony outfit.

Correct. That's the one.

I honestly can’t claim abuse; having customers drop their cars off at our houses rather than the shop is impractical, and I can’t remotely be a direct-care staff in an adult foster care home, either.

That having been said, I know that there are some companies who are bending the rules (or best practices, depending on your jurisdiction). Others are re-thinking if they really need those big shiny offices they have . . . next couple of years might be interesting in the commercial real estate markets.

I know that feel; my RiL is like 2200 stories. :rainwbowlaugh:

And that’s not counting actual books (pony or not) I have on my shelves that I haven’t read yet . . .

"2200"
...
Well, I feel a bit better about mine now; it's big, but it's not that big. :D
...Er. As far as I know...

Yeeep, I know how that is too. Books I haven't read but want to, and of course the stack of books with bookmarks already in them...
Well, there are worse problems to have. :D
