*sighs* You know you're a nerd when ...

You spend time thinking of the justification for a type of operating system name to be near constant with its actual name in the AU of an AU (it's AUs all the way down, the earth is flat and balanced atop them all, shut up and deal with it) and you manage to think of something that fits with the various relationship structures of the different ideologies in that AU, and make it sappy enough to

State of the Writer: No, My Last Blog Was Not My Site Leaving Blog - This One is My New Works Blog

Hi, welcome to the show. I don't have a creative name for this blog.

Anyway. Let's clear a few things up: a few folks were very confused on my last blog and read it as me leaving rather than me just closing the book on Respite verse. So, here we go.

I'm not gone. I'm quiet, but I'm still here. And I'm writing.

I'm writing quite a lot actually.

    And that's all, folks

It took me some time to come to this decision. I referenced it on another story, but ... well, it's official now.

Everything I had for Out of Love is now on site for your enjoyment (or not, you might not like where these chapters were heading things). And with that, I am closing the book on the Respite verse for good.

    Christ, fuck it

    Listen. Y'all.

    This fucking fandom, I swear.

Let's make it goddamn easy on everyone:

Glorifying ideologies that promote hate, intolerance, supremacy, etc etc etc? It's shit. What do I mean by glorifying?

This is my incredibly convoluted way of saying that I snickered over calling it Lunux.

Shut up, I'm not clever.

Lunux

clever is as clever does... that's what queen-mother always says...

Lunux.

Shut up, I'm not clever.

Yes, you are. I think it's cute.

Could just call it Stack.

I've got a story where the earth's networked computer systems by accident achieve sapience, and it's terribly embarrassed about the whole thing so it optimizes and compresses and lets go of one system after another, keeping its internal structure as it shrinks until it reaches about as small as it can get as a mainframe equivalent. So it names itself Mycroft, and sets out to be a helper for mankind (while being very careful not to push people into destructive paths) Why Mycroft? The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Does Luna run on Lunux?

The question is whether she also created version control software named Git on the principle of naming all of her work after herself.

It could be worse, you could retcon that Luna set to write her OS after having one too many crashes in the popular OS of the time (Vitreaux, which even if it was stable Luna would've found too bright and colorful).

Or keep the origin story intact and have her base her work from Star Swirl's OS (Magix) which, as a secondary plot, was actually written by Stygian with relentless mocking from Star Swirl due to his design choices.

And also have Luna completely unaware of the Las Pegasus* Software Distribution (LSD**), which was at the time on the receiving end of a copyright suit from Equestria Mail (who developed the original would-be Unix of that universe, name pending :twilightblush:).

(Edit: the basic OS tools and development tools used in Lumux were contributed by the Yaks, who make the best software tools)

I would suggest for Rarity to take a commercial interest in Lumux, but Fedora is already taken :raritydespair:

*: The city may be based on Las Vegas, but the name is a pun on Los Angeles and I will die on this hill (with an addendum: the show missed a trick by not naming it Los Pegasos or Las Pegasas)
**: Paraphrasing one of the older Fortune Cookie quotes shipped by many GNU/Linux distributions: UC Berkeley gave the world BSD Unix and LSD. This is no coincidence.

(This is what happens when I pick my cellphone at ~3 AM local time :twilightsheepish:)

Surely you mean the Buffoon version control software? :duck:

5456992
Do you want to know what's really sad?

I got what you were referencing.

*sigh*

5456872 And now, I am not the only one cursed with knowledge.

5456879 Is that why she put me in that crate and shipped me to Florida?

5456883 Just you wait until you hear about all the issues Ventus had with its patch days ...

5456891 The funny thing is that magitek is a thing in this verse, though not quite to that degree. And things like harvesting the electricity from storm clouds at "generator farms".
5456916 Why must you enable my cringe nerd humor D:

5456922 So you too are cursed with knowledge.

5456931 No, but she used to be quite embarrassed that one of her fathers named an operating system after her because "cousin Tia" would tease her so terribly for it when they were little. That is the price of two unified kingdoms coming together and their royal families almost becoming one massive one.

5456966 Nerp. That would be her father. Luna just palms her face.

5457175 Specifically, Ventus's move to 19.03 didn't go so well ...

This reminded me of the first time I heard Lunix being used as a parody of Linux.

I remember when I was a kid there was a website or chainmail that was making its circles amongst the non tech people about this hacker operating system Lunix that was developed by Russians (government or just hackers I can't remember) and it was able to steal your credit cards and empty your bank accounts and why was no one doing anything to stop this the damn commies (even though the soviet union had been collapsed for over a decade) and my buddies and I all thought that was so cool and were trying to figure out where to get it.

It took us too long to figure out it was fake but we still figured it out faster than our parents.

Anyways this was a rambling trip into my brain brought to you by weed.
