'NO, it was meant for her, not him!
I raced towards the rune system and activated the return function...but it didn't respond. The Trilume wasn't obeying my commands, how?!
"Princess Celestia is going to be so upset," I moaned, rubbing my head as I tried and failed over and over to order the Trilume to return. "Why isn't it obeying me?! What could possibly override my control of it?! Nothing is that powerful!"
I didn't know what was going on, but whatever it was that made the Trilume disobey me was beyond my current power. The only possible answer was that it had latched onto something darker than itself and used it to override my commands.
But what had it latched onto? Richard was angry, but he wasn't powerful. Certainly not more so than myself...so what was it?
Whatever it was had to wait for the moment. I had to stop the creature before it killed Richard...or worse.
Richard Pov
I hated this, I hated being back here in this shithole of a city. I hated the way they looked at me, the way they looked at Chrissy.
I hated-
A sudden sharp throb forced a gasp out of my throat, my hand clutching at my chest as it continued to throb in a random rhythm. The edges of my vision began to fray as a low, melancholy tune filled my ears.
The darkness grew stronger, thicker. I could feel my vision fading the more time passed.
'What's happening to me?
...and then it happened. I felt it, a cold so intense that I could barely describe it. But the cold wasn't from the outside...it was from within.
I looked up, my vision becoming steadily clearer as I managed to make out...
"What the fuck?"
A man stood a short distance ahead of me, the murky blackness trailing behind him as he looked up at me.
"No fucking way," I whispered, backing off a touch.
It was me. Right in front of me, he...was me.
He smiled at me, a sinister, cold smile.
"Richard...Tyler," he said, voice almost a hiss, his green eyes flashing with malice.
"T-This isn't happening, I'm dreaming," I muttered, backing away from him. "I must be."
His smile widened a touch, his movements slow, unsteady as he moved closer. "Dreaming...dying..." He stopped in front of me, his hand reaching out to touch my face. "You will lose yourself...to me."
I stared as his hand neared, fingertips brushing my cheek as his eyes narrowed.
