"This animal, it is said, cannot be taken alive."

Let’s say it’s six hundred-ish years ago, and you’re the King of Scots.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining; Behind the clouds is the sun still shining.

You probably know how this sort of thing goes. There you are, mowing your grass on a day that can't decide whether to shine or drizzle on you, a few years and counting into your non-writing streak. Whatever thoughts you're having are at the expense of your lawnmower picking a fight with every passing tuffet and losing.

    Tyomnaya strana

Just as alicorns descend upon parched wastelands bearing storms and seeds, so too do kindly translators upon my horsewords. Dark Country's received a Russian translation by the kind efforts of

    Stellarum voces

A jolly update for folk who like either fanfic readings or The Motion of the Stars, and a downright rapturous one for folk who like both. My name is R has brought their vocal talent to bear on the story, complete with images and background music to help

    On Brains

A nice breezy dialogue to ease in with:

CARABAS’ COMMON SENSE: So, a hypothetical conservation for you.
CARABAS: Two lines in and we’ve already got fictional discourse nested in the initial fictional discourse. Gosh, I must just love to live dangerously.

SweetBanana in need · 6:52pm Feb 9th, 2021

Times are dire. For SweetBanana, especially so.

If you're able to chip in to keep her off the streets in the middle of winter and in the middle of a pandemic, please spare what you can for her GoFundMe. If you can't, please spread the word.

Sigh...:fluttershysad: when I see things like this it often makes me feel somewhat appalled to be a member of the human race.

Definitely a shoddy situation she's been placed in. Nobody ought to be treated that dreadfully.

I know right? I just got done spreading the word and adding a small amount to her campaign. I hope she makes it.

As to people like her parents let me tell you a short story about a civilization that was essentially a utopia for your quote-unquote "purity" mindset. It was called Sparta. If a child was in anyway abnormal, or the wrong gender, they left them outside the city walls at the tender age of <5 yrs old to "fend for themselves". They were very big on military, war, slavery, and other such things. Problem is, they got so caught up in their purity, that they actually hastened their own civilization's collapse because when Rome and Barbarians came to call, there weren't enough people left alive to defend themselves.

Good on you. That'll help SweetBanana.

You seem like a soul who'd like the ACOUP blog (if you've not discovered it already), which dabbles in most things historical. Their Sparta series compares the glorified image to what we know of the reality, and is definitely worth a read.

I read the first article, and I knew that Sparta was messed up, but reading this was like messed up to the nth degree.

On a similar train of thought, This first article kind of reminds me of the pony fiction "Rainbow Factory" I greatly disliked the story as it was written, but I admitted that if it had been made up as a historical fiction it would have been more tolerable.

Thank you for boosting the signal!

Nae problem. Glad to have seen other folk boosting it.
