so it turns out PayPal has not completely left me to go fuck myself. they say that if i can provide enough government issued documentation that proves who i am, i might be able to unlock my account.
obviously, i'll be attempting to do that. however, there is a problem in the meanwhile; without my PayPal account functioning, i can't manage payment for my work in any reasonable fashion.
it could take several weeks, maybe even months for my PayPal situation to sort itself out. that's why we have an important update.
if you've got a commission active with us, we will be proactively reaching out to you soon to see what the best option will be moving forward. obviously, we'd prefer to keep our queue as is and finish the projects we've already started on. that being said, we don't expect anyone is happy waiting so long to get their commissions finished. we'll be offering to complete any story up to the wordcount provided by the initial downpayment. if you're a commissioner, you can either wait until our PayPal sorts itself out and then have us complete the project as normal, or start work on a half-paid project and complete it to about 50% of the original specified wordcount.
genuinely, we'd prefer to offer refunds, but that just isn't viable or possible given the fact that we currently have no money and no means of moving money around on the internet.
oh yeah. and because it's probably important to mention, we found somewhere to stay that lets us work on our writing and isn't too scary or dangerous. there are some small problems so far, but it's a heck of a lot better than our last place, and also a lot better than being homeless. probably.
if y'all know of any way of moving money around on the internet without PayPal, please let us know. we have $30 in our bank account to last until the end of the month, no food in the kitchen, no bed for our room, no dresser for our clothes, etc.. it'd be really nice if we could just pop up and say "hey look everything's fine!". but it's not.
if anyone needs more information about what is going on, please ask. we just wanted to let everyone know we still exist and we aren't planning on jetting off to cancun with everyone's money any time soon. we want to stick around and provide the work we've been paid for. maybe even get a hug or two.

Sorry to say, but I'm not entirely sure of any safe method of transferring Canadian/foreign currencies on the internet.
I would recommend setting up a crypto wallet. I have some bitcoin that I could throw around, and you don't need a bank to access it.
That is the thing with PayPal and why I hate it: it basically operates on the assumption EVERYONE is a criminal, but as long as there isn't too much money changing hands they will ignore the activity of said criminals

Is there a way to get other Paypal accounts to vouch for you?
I don’t have any advice on dealing with a locked account, but I do want to add something: When setting up a payment option for Bandcamp, the site suggests converting your PayPal personal account into a business account to avoid any problems with receiving a higher number of payments. I don’t know whether this would apply to your case, but I thought it was worth mentioning for when you finally get your account back.

In the meantime, I'm looking into how to get you some grocery money while we're in the US and you're in Canada. It might be slightly convoluted and take a couple-few days, and I wouldn't get my hopes up until it actually works, but I want to try buying you a Walmart Canada gift card, which can be used in-store, for pickup at store, or online if you're not close enough to a store. You could get some nonperishable grocery items that way, potentially. I'll note you.

Yeah there's bound to be other places you can link money to, I'm sure some could work. Would things like kofi or patreon be able to circumnavigate it?
