A note on the status of Learning Curve · 12:34am Feb 4th, 2021
Last night, I finally decided it was time to do something I should have done long ago. I have officially changed Learning Curve's status to On Hiatus.
We're sitting at two and a half years since the last update rolled out for that one. It's amazing how time flies. It honestly doesn't feel like it's been that long, but the numbers don't lie.
I don't remember the exact reason I stopped writing it. I don't really think there was one. I had a pretty tough semester and generally a tough year in 2018. I didn't write for a while outside of a quick Jinglemas story that year, and then when I finally started getting back into writing, my interest had shifted to Set Sail and it's shiny new ideas. Learning Curve just got left on the backburner, and I still haven't had the time to get back into the flow of that one.
Honestly, I'm not 100% enthusiastic to continue it either. Looking back on it through the lens of five years of additional writing experience, I am not overly proud of the quality of the writing in those earlier chapters. It's... okay, but upon rereading my work a few months ago, I found it pretty insubstantial. Besides the one actual point of conflict in the story, lots of things treated as problems in the story feel more like non-issues. Maybe even borderline melodramatic?
I dunno. I don't like leaving things unfinished, and I have history with that fic. I need to bring it to a conclusion. But time doesn't allow for that. This semester is shaping up to be one of the busiest yet. I barely have the time to even work on the story I'm dedicated to writing at the moment. I mean, Set Sail is my only current project, and it averages about three months between updates these days.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel. In May, I will graduate. I will get a real job and begin a career. And, ironically, that will leave me with more time to work on personal projects. Ain't school a bitch? Instead of paying to be stressed, I will get paid to be stressed! And work will have much less of a tendency to follow me home at the end of the day. I am looking forward to it like you wouldn't believe.
Officially, Learning Curve is on hiatus until Summer. After that, who knows? If you're a fan of that story and have been awaiting an update all this time, first of all I'm sorry. And I respect you for your fortitude. I am not abandoning it, rest assured, but it will be a while before we get moving again.
I’m still gonna read it eventually and you can’t stop me.
Jack, you will continue this story or you will father my next child.
Eh, I've waited longer. 2 1/2 years is nothing at this point.
