Why do Fallout Equerstria stories have to be so long? · 10:17pm Jan 25th, 2021

This is another thing I'm thinking about as I get ready to write my own Fallout Equestria story: Why do Fallout Equestria Stories have to be so fucking long? And I don't even mean the number of chapters, but the amount of words in the chapters as well?

I mean, just searching for fallout equestria stories you get:

Short chapter numbers but incomplete with 100 chapters

Chapter numbers start out relatively manageable but then it jumps up to 10,000 words average per chapter

TFallout Equestria: Heroes
A Fallout Equestria Sidefiction. A lonely guard, inspired by Littlepip, goes to save her brother.
No One · 583k words  ·  2,381  71 · 46k views

41 chapters with most chapters having 10 - 20 thousand words

TFallout: Equestria - The Hooves of Fate
A young filly in present day Ponyville is cursed with nightmares of post-apocalyptic Equestria. She finds herself influencing the course of future history in ways that she cannot understand.
Sprocket Doggingsworth · 488k words  ·  539  27 · 9.8k views

This one doesn't even have chapter numbers but it's 380,000 words!

Is this just like a holdout or something from KKat's story?

Chapter 37 has 51 THOUSAND words. Do you have any idea how many pages 51 thousand words is? That's 170 fucking pages!

That's an entire novel in one chapter!

Am I supposed to write these ignorantly long chapters when writing a fallout equestria story? Is everyone doing it just because KKat did it? Why did KKat do it in the first place? I'm so confused :rainbowderp:

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention, why does every Fallout Equestria story, or almost every story, seem to be in first person as well? Is that another holdout from the original? Because KKat did it originally so now every fic has to have 10k+ chapters and be written in first person? :rainbowhuh:

I bet you could listen to FoE on tape and drive the entire Pan American highway and only be halfway through once you reach the horn :rainbowwild:

Well, to simply put because subjects of the story are very broad. World and character are well defined, and that it take time when world is big and characters are numerous.( As I previously said not much left unsaid.) Plus that how fimfiction were back then, if story isn't single chapter than everyone were writing a book of a story.

Well, it's like the difference between developing an open-world game and a cutscene-driven game. You have a lot more content with a story like that, vs making a quick story about an isolated issue. Fallout is covering a world-wide issue - total atomic annihilation. Because of that, there's just so much to tell about everything going on. If you took an individual series of missions from a Fallout game, you'd have yourself an entire movie, game, or even a TV series in what detail there is to actually put into it, but in a game all of those details are decided by the player rather than by the writer. You're kind of taking on both roles with a story, rather than a user-driven experience, so there's more to write.

But I'm high, so who knows if that made any sense.

Why would I do such a thing? :twilightblush:

A full NaNoWriMo novella in a single chapter. However, that is not 170 normal pages: it only translates to 170 pages at a small paperback size. As 8.5x11, it’s around 50 pages. The verbosity is why I never got into FoE in the first place.

I often ask that question myself as well, i notice alot of FoE fics tend to get rather lengthy. Their are a few that arent as bad but i do not remember for life of me which. its one of reason i stopped reading FoE Fics all together cause too many of them are just too long. From either amount of chapters or how long the chapters themselves are. Sometimes i like finding audio on youtube where listen to it rather than read it.
