Ending of Book 1, Decision to be made. · 6:20pm Jan 17th, 2021
So I've been having some ideas for the finale, mixing in stuff from canon and my own stuff. I've written a first draft of the final meeting with Quirrell but lets just say its pretty dark again, sorry! I just wanted to ask you guys what do you prefer, a rather bland almost same as the Philosophers Stone ending or something a little more shocking and oh my word, QUIRRELL DID WHAT! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and FYI, book 2 will be a lot more slice of life, lessons etc. and will not really be following the book very much when I get around to writing it. Still 2 to 3 chapters and a wedding one-shot to go first!.
My personal opinion staying too close to cannon more often than not feels forced for the sake of plot. I have some authors bend of backwards to stay in line with cannon even if it means making characters dumb as a brick. So I say spread your wings and have fun with it and twist the cannon plot however you see fit.
Canon is there to screw with, sodo just that.

Just told you what I love to do.
QUIRRELL DID WHAT! Ending
Well, I don't think you have to end it like the canon if you think it does not fit with all the elements you have been adding so far. This is your story, after all. As long as your changes are still within realm of reason (not something haphazard or spur or moment), I think it is good enough.
I'm not usually one for dark but the Harry Potter universe kinda just attracts that kind of thing it seems

Yeah, sorry about that.

Its not spur of the moment, rather something that would have likely happened probably end of book four? By integrating earlier it gives me something else I can use in books two and three I hope. Ultimately the ending keeps in line with the book, but is just a lot, lot darker I think.

I'm not complaining per say just stating that the nature of the hp universe just lends itself to dark content
