Okay! I’ve finished Chapter 8, finally, and I’ve also rewritten Chapter 1 to fit with the idea and the universe I’ve written out in Ch.8. But because I’ve read over this in comparison to my published chapters before, it definitely won’t make sense if I just release Ch.8 right now.
I plan on either unpublishing all my previous work after rewriting all of Ch.2-Ch.7 (B/C I didn’t finish the rewr. last time I published it one chap at a time), or unpublishing them now and just uploading the already completed New Ch.1 now. I would appreciate it if you gave your opinion in the comments on this blog or in a PM.
By the way, can I even do this? There are some scenes I directly copied from my original into the rewrite - so can I publish it as a new chapter? If I just paste it into the old chapter slot, it would be confusing to read the reworked version and then have the next chapter you click on be the original version, right?

Hm. If it was me, I'd just change the story to 'hiatus', then start working on the rewrite using new chapters. When the rewritten chapters are done, I'd suggest then publishing those new chapters and unpublishing the old ones.
Although, you also could just use the edit option if that would be more convenient.

Unless you feel badly enough about this version that you don't really want people reading it, I'd say leave the chapters up while you do the rewrite. Let people keep reading it while you're working on it. As to what the site is capable of, I believe you literally could click edit on a chapter, select all, and replace it with the new one, then edit the title of the chapter to include "rewritten" if you want, and save it. That keeps the comments, unless you think that would end up being weird after the rewrite.
This is a tough situation... if you are rewriting all the chapters to fit a major change to your universe, then changing one chapter could throw everyone off. But, you also don't want to remove the story entirely. I would personally recommend waiting to update the chapters to their re-written form until you have them finished all ready. I know this will stop you from posting chapter 8, and would take a considerable amount of time... but, the other options, I do believe would cause confusion among the readers. If chapter 8 is not entirely changing the storyline, and the rewrites would be minor tweaks, then posting the chapter one at a time might work. I really don't know, this is a tough situation, but that's all I got. (I'm truly just happy to see updates are coming soon

I recommend what I’ve seen many people do in which add an update chapter saying they will move the story and cancel this one then just make a new one with the same name just add rewrite in brackets in the title because it fixes the possibility of confusion on the story and allows people to see how the story evolved from the original one:)

I’m not really sure that’s allowed, actually, because even though there are significant changes, there are parts of the text that I’ve copied directly from the original.

I think everyone is generally just leaning towards finishing the whole rewrite and then unpublishing everything, so that’s most likely going to be what I’ll do!

Hm I don't honestly know how I feel about a complete rewrite as I find the current chapters brilliant but I will give it a read when your done as for the rewrite its self I would agree with argentyros and keep the old chapters up till your done hope this helps
Hmm... I have NO experience posting to this site. I tell stories, they never seem to make it to paper. That said if a new page is made for it, I'll follow. If a chapter has the words rewrite added to the chapter name, I'll read it. I don't suggest unpublishing chapters till the new one is ready. I like going back to reread different stories in my spare time and would miss this one.

Thank you for your input, it’s very much appreciated! As for going back and rereading, I’ll definitely have a Google Doc up with the original story on it to look back at, but I do get how inconvenient it might be that way. I’ve already decided - based on the support for this - to finish the rewrite before unpublishing, just thought you might like to know!
