If someone slaps you in the face then the only excuse that you should accept is that you had it coming, and only if you had it coming.
There is no other reason that makes it any worse or better. Jumping to conclusions, especially conclusions born from tribalism, distracts from the issue at hand. Even worse: some people think it's acceptable to decide that it's not really all that bad if their side did it; and I for one am out of patience for that sort of thinking.
