It's over. 2020, one of the worst years of the 21st century, is finally over.

It started off as a fairly promising year; sure there were reports of some new bug over in China, but other than that, it had a lot of potential. And it did...until March. That's when our good friend COVID-19 threw a wrench into the gears.

The last nine months, it's been one calamity after another. Shutdowns, cancellations, riots, fires, restrictions, you name it. It's going to take years for us to recover. Some of us may not recover at all.

Of course, just because the year's over doesn't mean things are automatically better. It's not like all of a sudden the pandemic vanished and the economy instantly recovered. But this time, starting today, things will slowly start to get better.

At least that's the hope.

Actually the year pretty much started for me (in February at least) with the gruesome death of my mother to lung cancer, after I had cared for her full-time for the prior year. At that point I was truly alone for the first time in my life and we went into covid restrictions. Well, yes, 2020 is over. All reading this have survived it. I don't think anyone will look at the statement "Hindsight is 20:20" in the same way anymore of course. Maybe it will become a joke after the appropriate amount of time. Here is to hoping the next few years will be better than 2020 was because I thought 2018 (the year dad died among so many other things I can't remember that were dire but not 2020 dire) was like "worst year ever." Of course 2019 topped 2018 and 2020 topped 2019. Never think it can't get worse because it most certainly can.

Well we have a vaccine now so here’s hopping
