I know the feeling, though I'll be blowed if some subpar canon is going to stop me writing for the parts of the show I actually care about. The second half of the show - well, most of it - was basically taken over by careless fanfickers, as far as I'm concerned. I wash my hands of any "fan commitment" to it.

It's not exactly stopping me from writing. More like it's destroying the writing mood entirely, and the rest of my life wasn't really getting any better.
Glad you're still alive. I've yet to see much if any of S9 and I'm not sure I ever will at this rate.

Wow. I knew things were bad, but I had no idea they were that bad.
To be honest, I stopped watching (or, at least, trying to watch) around Season 6. I don't really think it was anything to do with the show itself, I'd just moved on to other stuff. (Or moved back to other stuff? I'm on a Pokemon fix right now...) And man, do I not regret a single thing about doing that.

I never intended to write, nor actually wrote, anything intended to be 100% canon compliant. I did, however, write something intended to reexamine canon critically from first principles.
You can imagine how canon actually being beneath any kind of critical examination makes me feel.
