Hi y'all, sorry I've been dead on this site for a while, but for any of those who are still out there...I will once again be at BABSCon 2024 in Burlingame, CA, from Mar 29 to 31!
And I'll likely be in my Twilight or Opaline cosplay. Hope to see y'all there!
100% imagining story arc, characters designs, scenes, dialogues; wondering whether this or that scenario is the best way to move story forward; removing weak plot elements (like ones that sounded cool in a dramatic way at some point, but then I realized they would require forcing some characters to act OOC and would also probably make many readers angry); deciding how should I foreshadow certain events that will happen later in the fic; and so on...
I think a lot of people deal with the same thing or some variation of it. You will eventually reach completion and be happy it's done and ready.
Mine is:
10% writing.
20% doubting if the story is good.
25% procrastination.
45% staring at a blank page trying to write until I give up.
Mine currently is:
100% imagining story arc, characters designs, scenes, dialogues; wondering whether this or that scenario is the best way to move story forward; removing weak plot elements (like ones that sounded cool in a dramatic way at some point, but then I realized they would require forcing some characters to act OOC and would also probably make many readers angry); deciding how should I foreshadow certain events that will happen later in the fic; and so on...
0% actually writing anything of that down
So you are actually doing pretty great.
1% writing
74% self-loathing
25% procrastination
this formula also does not work very well
I hardly write stories, I translate them.
I've been working on Anthropology since March 2018, and now I still haven't finished it.
Yes, I'm really a big dove(“大鸽子”, which means I promised to do something but actually did nothing in a very long period of time.)
So mine is:
1% persistence
and 99% procrastination.
And a 100% reason to remember the name!
