Just a little thing about me · 5:00pm Dec 2nd, 2020
So I'm a transgender woman. She/her. That's who I've always been, and who I am. You're not really learning anything new about me, I've always identified openly as a woman on this site, and online in general, but I never figured that detail was a part of me anyone was entitled to know. And no one is entitled to know. I am a woman, I am who you've always known me to be. But now you know my chromosomes are a little fucked up too.
So why say this now? I still believe no one is entitled to know, but there are people who should know, namely other trans folks. I want them to know - I want you to all know... being transgender is normal, and it's okay. There are many, many of us and the more of us that come out the more of us feel brave enough to come out.
I myself was inspired to publicly come out by the incredible courage it must've taken for my long-time favourite actor, Elliot Page (Juno, Inception, Umbrella Academy etc.), to come out as transgender as he/they did just yesterday. The fear of doing so as such a public figure sounds absolutely crippling to me, and I'd like to strive to be even marginally as brave as him.
He inspired me, and though it's unlikely, maybe by coming out online I'll inspire someone else too. If you're trans and you're reading this, remember, you're not alone.
I'd also like to shout out the loving acceptance of many of my friends who know already, including my internet bestie Subject 19 and my internet senpai Bubbly-Storm. Thank you guys.
Love you all. And thank you, Elliot. 🏳️🌈
