I'll admit to being a little puzzled my own self. Even putting aside the anagram bit (which to be fair, I don't assume everyone knows about in the first place), lota is actually a word, but I figure it's much less common knowledge than iota, so I would assume most people read it as the latter. But the two letters do look identical, and the name as a whole is kind of nonsense anyway, so I can appreciate how someone might get a bit of tunnel vision on an ambiguity like that.
