One week ago, I said it would never happen.

That I would never achieve a Rainbow S ranking on every level of Freedom Planet 2.

    And now...

Tell Your Tale: Buried in a Good Book

This week, Misty forces her friends to play a D&D campaign with a DM who sounds like she's bored out of her mind.

    Pretty decent this week.

    One of those moments...

...where I really wish it wasn't 3 AM.

Have to save the last one for tomorrow after work, then it's time to 100% Freedom Planet 2, something I really didn't think I'd pull off.

That was a way to kill an evening.

It also gave me a very, very good idea of what stages I will never, ever get a Rainbow S in.

    I completely underestimated today's eclipse.

I have witnessed two partial eclipses in my lifetime, so I wasn't quite sure how a "total eclipse" would be noticeably better.

Holy shit, how wrong I was.

Luckily, I reside well within the path of totality, so I didn't have to travel at all.

    And just... Wow.

That Time Of Year Again · 9:32pm Oct 30th, 2020

Slowly taking mom through the Equestria Girls films, and it is unfortunately reminding me of the point I keep returning to over the past year:

Sunset Shimmer got the shortest stick of the entire cast of the 4th gen of MLP, because the suits at Hasbro pulled the plug before her story could come to any kind of definitive conclusion, and I am very annoyed at that.

Such a disservice to the character.

Not to mention the subplot of homesickness that got so far along in development that scenes were storyboarded and songs were written and even performed before it ended up being dropped. To me that says it was a cutting-room-floor removal.

I've got several stories in the pipeline, but I've had a Sunset-finale-themed story on the backburner for so long that I'm wondering if I should return to it.

But the absolute biggest hurdle for me would be to figure out what to do with her.

I have heard absolutely fantastic arguments on both sides of the "stay vs go home" debate.

I have absolutely no clue what side to take, and it's been a very, very long time since I have done a 'multiple ending' story, but at this point I think that would be a copout.

I don't know. We'll see. Other stories to attend to in the meantime.

Y’all just love drawing the characters like men, don’t you?

Sunset deserved better than she got.

Yeah... Sunset really did get the short end of the stick with Hasbro. Like, no matter how much I passionately despite the Equestria Girls shows and movies, I still really like Sunset's character, especially her potential. I was totally hoping she would get maybe a few cameos or mentions throughout the final season but nope. Huge disservice Hasbro.

Although if you were thinking of writing a Sunset-orientated fic. I would be totally down with a Returns to Equestria plot. :>

The problem is, they refused to make a choice at the end of Equestria Girls 3. If they wanted Sunset to Return home, it was the right choice to have Sci-Twi join Canterlot High, however if they wanted Sunset to Stay in the Human world, they should have had Sci-Twi stay at Crystal Prep. Sci-Twi and Sunset are simply too similar in the roles they fill. The Other thing that went wrong was Starlight Glimmer and making her part of the mane cast.

And a number of other bad decisions from that point onwards to the series finale.

Not to mention the subplot of homesickness that got so far along in development that scenes were storyboarded and songs were written and even performed before it ended up being dropped. To me that says it was a cutting-room-floor removal.

Oh snap where did you hear about that? Was this an article on EQD or something? Or part of DVD features?

If memory faintly serves, it was part of deleted scenes that were either on the DVD features or uploaded to YouTube.

Largely it was Equestria-Twilight meeting Sunset at a diner before the Friendship Games, discussing the possibility of returning to Equestria.

The other part was "What More Is Out There" was originally written as a duet with Sunset and Sci-Twi singing. Sunset's verses were likewise exploring the potential of returning home.

I'm not sure the reasons for the cut were ever explained. I personally theorized that it would have made Friendship Games run long, and would have likely taken the focus off of Sci-Twi and her device.

I have written three short stories taking place after Friendship Games, Legend of Everfree, and an alternate take on Forgotten Friendship that address Sunset's growing homesickness.

My headcanon has always been that she is eventually forced to return to Equestria permanently. Whether it’s to keep magic out of the human world or something else she moves to Equestria and never returns to the human world.
