    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

Midnight Castle Update (Sorry!) · 2:17am Oct 28th, 2020

I think I have a complexity addiction or a work addiction or something.

Trouble at Midnight Castle has not updated since July and that's a big mea culpa; the reason is that I was focused on another project that I and a number of other talented authors on this site are working on and I wanted to finish the first story for that. Took longer than expected as we were ironing out setting, plot, and characterization details for the past few months.

Also got a new computer (named her Sirocco) and there was the usual stuff surrounding transferring files from my old computer, re-downloading games, etc.

Still, I have finished the first story of that project, the pilot "episode" of a Friendship School series starring the Young-6. I still have to write its Part 2, but I'm putting that on hold for now as I get back to work on Midnight Castle. I'm 2,000 words in at the moment and am giving myself a soft deadline of Halloween to get it published, though it may take a few extra days.

God willing it'll be done before November 3rd as I know for a fact that I won't be able to do any writing that day or the day after...and depending on how things go possibly not for some time after that if I end up too depressed with the election results and what they mean for my home country. Though at least the news on that front is good at the moment, though the specter of 2016 looms large...

Anyway. Long story short, sorry for the impromptu hiatus, it wasn't planned, but if all goes well it should be over soon. The hiatus. Not the story. Story has a ways to go.

Lol it's nice to know you're not dead, at least!

Take all the time you need, especially with a big project like that. But just know, I'm excited for when Trouble at Midnight Castle returns! :pinkiehappy:

Sounds like you have been up to something interesting. I look forward to your next chapter.

I look forward to the next chapter and this mystery project...

I'm very interested in a Young 6 story collection with your involvement.

New chapter soon? Neet! Take your time though. No one's forcing you to write constantly.

Sounds like we all have a lot to look forward to. Eagerly awaiting both projects... within reason.

It's cool. Things happen. I'm glad to hear you haven't given up on Midnight Castle yet, and the rest sounds like a good kind of busy.

I can relate to your comments on November 3rd.

I've got some special stuff planned for Halloween here too. Sort of. I update most Saturdays anyway, so Halloween being on a Saturday this year is a convenient coincidence. Still...I tried to make sure the stuff I'm going to publish fits or fits well enough for the day.

Anyway, wishing you the best for your creative and mental well-being.
