Hey, guys! Here is my brief review of Iron Man (2008). Iron Man has always been one of my favorite superheroes from Marvel of all time besides Spider-Man. I even had several Iron Man action figures when I was a teenager. I had both the first movie and the second movie on DVD. When I watched the first movie back at the same year, I was blown away by how awesome the said character was! Even to this day, I still love the movie and how all the characters made their respective debuts within the film! So here are my thoughts on this film:

). Robert Downey Jr. was fantastic as Tony Stark/Iron Man! I honestly cannot think of anybody else who would have fit the role of the main character. Whenever I think of Iron Man, I immediately think “Robert Downey Jr.” because he is the Iron Man. He owned the role and kept going on fire throughout the films in which he flawlessly played Tony Stark (including the Avengers films). I love his witty humor, sarcastic personality, and playboy attitude. He’s like the Marvel version of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

). The main villain himself was also great. Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger was menacing, sadistic, cunning, intelligent, merciless, and quite humorous as well. At first, I thought that his apparent friendship with Tony was good until I discovered his true intentions throughout the movie. I had no idea he was behind everything especially those terrorists’ attacks on Tony in the beginning. Man... he is such a great villain! Jeff Bridges nailed his character right.

). The jokes in this film were funny and well-paced. The film itself was balanced with both the dark, serious tone along with the humor to lighten the mood of the viewers. Because one thing I hate in action films in general is the humor (especially cringeworthy humor) often overcoming the serious scenes in the movie that should actually focus on the action. One example would be Age of Ultron that kept killing the tension in most scenes with badly-paced humor and terrible jokes; it’s one of the reasons why I hate that movie.

). The story was actually interesting and fun to watch. I also love the mystery involved that triggers the brain to think along with the hero and the other protagonists. I always cherish that in those films. It makes it more fun and enlightening in a way.

). Pepper Potts was... decent in this movie. I’m honestly not always a big fan of love interests in these action films especially when they repeatedly get on my nerves such as Mary Jane from the Spider-Man trilogy, Rachel from The Dark Knight, and Carla Dean from Enemy of the State. Here, she was okay. Not great or terrible... just decent. I only wish she had more character development, but that’s just me.

). The action was great and really fun to watch. My favorite action scene in this movie was the final battle between Iron Man and Iron Monger. Of course, I love the rest of the action in the movie, but the final battle was much more epic in my opinion. The way the villain was defeated was both satisfying and climatic. I would replay that battle scene quite often because of how awesome it is.

). However, the other antagonists were just bland and uninteresting to me. Those two terrorist guys—I can’t remember their names which says a lot about them—are boring, filler villains for my taste. If only they had more character and personality, I would have appreciated and liked them more. Instead, they are just generic “bad guy terrorist” characters that feel like they don’t belong in the movie. You guys may like them, but I don’t like them that much.

). Overall, this was a great introduction to Iron Man and his friends and enemies. It has great character development, story, action, dialogue, soundtrack, and humor that is full of entertainment and fun. Therefore, I give this first film a 9/10! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Peace.
