Not dead, here's a snippet to make it up.

While I've been taking a really long break, I'm still writing while I can. Looking back, I was pushing a chapter nearly every month, and it finally caught up with me. Because of this, I'm trying another approach I've wanted to do for awhile, which was waiting until the story was finished first before publishing it slowly over a couple of weeks. For Colonel Hooves, there will be three chapters

Colonel Hooves nearing the end, what are some plot points you feel need addressing?

    Hello people!

Chapter 28 is finished, and I'll be starting the edits real soon, and with its completion I was left with the realization the story is finally reaching the end. I suspect another two chapters minimum before I write up an epilogue to wrap the story up, and this left me in a spot...

    Colonel Hooves Chapter 27 Preview.

Just a small preview of the upcoming chapter, and I'm happy to note we passed 5k words and are on trajectory to reaching 10k very soon!

“Order and Harmony, how can a single room fill me with such disdain to work, and actively seek a reason to escape its encompassing walls?”

    Colonel Hooves Chapter 27 update.

Nothing extraordinary to say other then the changes have taking effect for good. My chapters will be much longer then before so be ready to read some chunkers in the coming months, because chapter 27 is already 4k words and all of that is just talking filler and none of the plot. I'm projecting another 10-12k chapter by the end of the month.

Looking for new recruits! · 1:59am Oct 17th, 2020

Hello guys!

Idol's job is to rebuild the Crystal Empire's Guard Force, meaning he needs willing and able bodied ponies to volunteer!

So, if you have any OCs that you're willing to let me use than please drop them in the comments below, and I will credit the owners of course. My idea for these OCs is to have some of them (maybe more) as reoccurring characters in the story with a few becoming the 'Idol and friends' of the story. They wont take away from Idol and his family, but will on occasion have devoted chapters to their new lives as guards. Their first appearances might not be for a couple of chapters, but some might appear sooner if they're already apart of the Canterlot detachment in the Empire with the rest joining later.

Please provide as much detail as you're willing to provide, because if not I'm going have to slap something together and it might not be pretty.

Peace people!

I have a sort of half-developed guard OC named Steel Cut. An Earth Pony with a light earthy brown coat, a golden blond mane, dark chocolate brown eyes, about average size but with incredibly dense musculature and built like a brick. Ponies hear his name and profession in the guard and assume he's a swordspony but his actual talent is making amazing oatmeal (His cutie mark is a steaming bowl). He came from a poor (by Equestrian standards anyway) farming family and joined the Guard to take advantage of their equivalent of the G.I. Bill to afford higher education and hopefully break out of poverty (again by Equestrian standards). He is learning the blade because he realized with his name he would never hear the end of it otherwise but is still something of a novice.

Another kind of developed OC I have is Morning Star a Unicorn I don't really have her colors or body type yet. She comes from a long line of military ponies who can trace their family back to Old Unicornia's grand war mages. She earned her cutie mark (her namesake weapon with the head glowing with arcane power) by browsing the family spell library and discovering she had an intuitive understanding of the devastating war spells meant to smash entire companies. The Changeling invasion on the surface would have appeared to be her time to shine but the nature of the threat meant that fellow guardsponies and civilians were mixed up everywhere and her spells were actually worse than useless. There's a growing fear in her that her family's spell traditions are functionally pointless in modern Equestria and her special talent is obsolete. She kind of envies Shining Armor for having a military leaning talent that will always have a use.

I consider them only half-developed because I only have their basic hooks and haven't really come up with personalities beyond that.

I've got an OC called Twobits who you can use if you want. Originally they're supposed to be a changeling, though that's pretty easy to change. Their cover story, or rather their real story for this role for him, is that he was an illegitimate son of a wealthy stallion in Canterlot's elite. He grew up without a father in Appleloosa, where he developed a very strong country accent. But then his father died without a will or another heir, and in a search to find where to put all his bits, they found out about him. Twobits received all of his bits, and now he's a part of the Canterlot Elite, which he loves and everypony else hates. In a story that I'm developing, changeling stuff happens and there's drama, though again that can not be the case here. Parents are both dead and yet unnamed.

He's a brown earth pony with a dirty blonde mane, and has not focused as much as he should have on dental hygiene. He's generally a happy pony, and is a bit oblivious to what goes on around him (which is why he's fine with being around people who subtly hate him). Though because of growing up in Appleloosa, he's got some strong legs and a stronger work ethic, and he loves giving back to the community he's in. He's brash and speaks his mind without too much of a filter. Many of his jokes don't land, but he's ok with that. Oh, and he's gay in my story, though that's also something that's easy to change if you want.

The reason for him being in the guard could be because of the Canterlot Invasion. He realized that he'd be of better use in the Royal Guard than in fancy parties making friends with ponies who hate him (and chasing after Blueblood, who is famously the worst). Plus, lots more impressive stallions (or mares, w/e) in the Guard than in the Elite.

Feel free to use him, and don't be afraid of changing things if they don't totally work with what you want to write. I don't super care.

I would consider gabby the Griffin she is good at everything she try as long as she is helping someone.

my oc unstoppable force, he currently the biggest crystal unicorn in the empire, really he a horse his mother was a saddle arabian mare, and he grown to full horse size, he quite hot headed and willing to use violence as every option, unfortunately for him due to his color scheme and curved horn there a popular rumor he king sombra bastard son, it not true but he feel he need to prove himself and get out of sombras shadow, he a member of a small cult that worships Luna as goddess of the night and he a massive fanboy he calls her the revered night, he also got a crush on trixe since she performed a magic show

his cutie mark is a horse under a crown, show his willingness to serve something greater then himself

i never really did anything with my oc so feel free to use him if you want

True North is a white unicorn, brown mane, brown eyes and he loves his country, perhaps tooo much. He has spent a lot of time hiking and camping in the snow covered mountains surrounding the Empire and has developed a near immunity to the cold (his thick fur helps). He always tries to wear his trusty fur hat (ushanka, ear flaps pulled down) but always gets a little defensive and nervous when anyone asks what kind of fur the hat is, a secret he will carry to the grave (it's actually his, dyed gray. Lies he uses if people get too curious are: Rabbit, A Polar Bear, A Yeti he once met donated it, just found it like that) He is very friendly to others and always does what he can to help those he can. He speaks with a Canadian-esque accent, no 'aboots' but plenty of 'eh' and the end of questions, calling everyone 'bud', and loves to make puns.

I have an OC which I wouldn't mind seeing in a story (especially since I don't think I'll take the time to write a story myself). He's a shameless self insert going by the name of Mimik. He is a changeling, but unlike Idol, he decided to live among the ponies by choice, rather than by banishment. He was raised in the hive to be an infiltrator and, on his first assignment to replace a pony to steal love, he came to appreciate the free lifestyle of the ponies and saw the flaws in the rule under Chrysalis. He is highly intelligent and views the world logically, with minimal emotion (which makes interpersonal relationships difficult, since he doesn't truly understand emotional responses, but he tries...). He can be a bit deadpan in conversations and has a dry sense of humor, but has learned over time how to more naturally interact with ponies (he left the hive about 20 years before Idol). He is adept at a unique form of magic which manipulates the properties of physics to his will. This essentially coaxes matter and energy to do what he wants, which is more efficient than forcing effects to happen as normal magical spells would. The effects are more limited than normal magic, but it effectively makes him more powerful than he should be with his modest magical capacity, particularly with combat related magic (e.g. fire, lightning, shields, etc.)

Mimik has lived a few "lives", which are his go-to disguises. The first goes by Panzer Faust, a burly earth pony with white fur, black mane, and a cutie mark of an armor plate with a hole punched through it. He spent a few years as this pony in Dodge Junction as a handi-pony, doing odd jobs around town. Following this, he took on the disguise of a pegasus with dark blue fur with a short, dark grey mane, and cutie mark resembling comet, going by the name of Blue Streak. His magical abilities allow him to manipulate the airflow around him and, as such, he is a strong and fast flyer in this form (capable of supersonic flight, but without the ethereal properties of Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom). He lived as a drifter in this form for about 15 years, going from town to town, and having the odd adventure every so often. He discovered a talent for playing poker, his emotional senses allowing him to "read" other players quite well, and made a living in Las Pegasus as a card shark for a couple of years (making a good amount of bits, but still trying to keep a low profile). His most recent disguise goes by Flash Bang and is a goldenrod fur, orange mane unicorn with an explosion for a cutie mark (explosions being something he's become quite talented in creating with his magic in recent years). In this form, he finds employment as a magic and scientific researcher in Canterlot.

Having lived among the ponies for longer than he lived in the hive, Mimik sees himself more as a pony than a changeling. Because of this, he is more comfortable in pony form and rarely reverts to his changeling form, even when alone. Incidentally, this also makes it difficult for other changelings to see through his disguise, even under scrutiny. Since he usually kept to himself, the other changelings in canterlot didn't know he was a changeling, including Idol (unless someone got out of line and he felt the need to intervene). Similarly, he never really got close enough to Idol during his time in Canterlot to notice that he was a changeling either. During the Canterlot invasion, he fought against his own kind to protect the ponies and way of live he'd come to appreciate. With the return of Sombra and the Crystal Empire, along with other recent existential threats, he decided to use his talents to serve and protect Equestria by joining the guard. Recognizing his combat talents, guard leadership decided he would be a good augmentation to the new Crystal Empire regiment, where he would be quite surprised to find that he was not the first changeling to join the guard...

I don't have an actual OC myself, but if you have some idea for one go on ahead and suggest it! I might use most or all depending on the story's need so you never know.

Are OC still needed? I have one
The details are in my blog if ya interested.

The story is winding down, but I wouldn't be opposed to sneaking in one more quick appearance.
