Regarding My Old Blog About The J K Rowling Fiasco · 8:59pm Sep 29th, 2020
Okay, this is not easy for me to say.
A few months ago when the scandal about J K Rowling assuming transphobic rhetoric came out, I was hesitant to believe it was actually transphobic. I said that she was likely mistaken and urged everyone to use their heads and address the matter calmly.
It seems, however, that J K Rowling herself hasn't addressed this calmly. From what I can see and judge, the woman is...suffering some issues. I wouldn't be surprised if her mental health is a bit at risk.
I hope she does get the help she might need and realise the magnitude of what she's said and done.
I can't defend her anymore, however. I can hope she changes her mind and understands why people took such issue with what she said but if she's not helping herself, I'm not doing so in her stead. This is her mess to deal with now.
I would like to say that her ideals, that trans people are 'confused, unpredictable and sometimes dangerous' is a very unpleasant ideal but not one that's only been in her mind. From what I've found out, this has been a common stereotype of trans people since as early as any can remember (It was in the Ace Ventura film of all things)
It is a highly outdated belief but one some people can still hold onto if not given proper knowledge of the subject.
I hope Rowling eventually learns that.
I don't believe it is impossible for her to realise what she did wrong and apologise.
If Frank Miller can do that for the ludicrously Islamophobic Holy Terror then it's possible for anyone.
But I'd just like that to be clear. I was willing to stand on her side but I can't anymore.
I will still always love the world of Harry Potter and the Wizarding World, a great inspiration of my Fimfics, and I actually enjoy the Cormoran Strike series.
But as to the author well...I hope she learns and can get whatever help she needs.
That's all I intend to say for now.
Agreed
Yeah, I really got nothing much to say either. I'd hoped that she might open her ears some, but for whatever reason she seems determined to die on this hill.
Thank you for pointing this out, by the way.
